Chaos (again)
Chaos. A swirling mass of it, centered in the middle of a wide, dark room, surrounding us as we enter. Suddenly I can't move, choking on my own breath. Then it's gone."Hades...He's working for Chaos." I manage to sputter, gasping for air. Annabeth rubs my shoulders, and I see that I've been affected worse than anyone else. The rest of the demigods just look scared. Am I weak or something?
"Whoa...but Pluto's one of the Big Three...he's really powerful!" Whispers Ralph.
"Yeah..." Ajax agrees breathlessly. "We are in BIG trouble."
I shakily draw my dagger, looking around the room for more of Chaos's minions or some underworld guard, but the dark corners of the room give nothing and the doorway remains starkly empty.
"Oookayyy, getting a little creeped out here..." I mutter.
"Let's leave." Says Julia hastily, shivering.
"Well, we've done what we came to do. We should go and tell Chiron, and start training to fight not only Chaos and Phobos but Hades!" Annabeth adds. "And I can see..." Her voice trails off. I elbow her in the ribs. "Then let's go!" I say. I have NO sympathy for Annabeth's Percy obsession.
We leave the palace silently, as not to disturb the skeleton guards Annabeth says should be there, but the long, dark hallways are strangely empty. We trek undisturbed over the fields of Asphodel, our only assailant the spirits that follow us as if trying to tell us something, their silvery auras lighting our way.
We reach the cave that Annabeth and I arrived into, the long rope still dangling down from the sewer system in the ceiling. I turn to Ajax.
"Are you leaving us here?" I ask plainly. I am emotionless as Ajax considers.
"No. We'll come with you back to New York, then catch a plane back." He says. I nod.
The ascent is silent as we haul ourselves up the sewer, the familiar stench of yuckiness invading my peace of mind.
Which is why I throw up when we reach the surface.
