Home and more Weirdness
When I'm done throwing up, we head to Annabeth's dad's house. There we rest while she talks to him for an hour.We catch a train to New York. The ride is uneventful if you don't count that little skirmish with the hydra.
Well, uneventful for a demigod, anyway.
We reach Half Blood Hill after a few days of riding cramped in a small compartment, sleeping and/or killing monsters that try to murder us in our sleep. Very relaxing.
Standing on the hill, the first snowflakes begin to fall, tiny, lacy things spiraling in the chilly wind. I shiver under my hoodie as we wait silently for the Romans' ride to pull up.
I somehow can't believe they're leaving. Even though I barely know them I don't want them to go. But as their car parks below the hill I realize that they're actually going to leave.
Ajax is the last to go. I turn towards him as he begins to walk away, the wind whipping my hair and soft white flakes fringing my eyelashes.
"Goodbye!" I call over the howling wind.
"Goodbye." He whispers.
The car door slams and the engine growls as it starts to drive away.
And they're gone.
