A Brother's Love
David's P.O.V.Finally, getting on the team made me feel like I was a normal teenager once again. Running to huddle with the guys, I glanced at Haven by the coach. I could tell in her brown eyes there was pain inside, but what was with that white rose? Did a guy give it to her? Perfect! My little sister was growing up before my eyes.
Crowding around the boys, I felt excited to vote for Haven. She was perfect for the team!
"Alright. We have Haven or Jennifer. I vote Haven." (Zero)
"Let's raise our hands and see who wins." (Dakota)
"I agree with the new kid." (Me)
"Ok. Who votes for Jennifer?"" (Zero)
Looking in the air, no hands went up. Then, we all burst out laughing at the silence. No one wanted the hoe which made me so happy! No girl who does that to my sister shouldn't get the right to be the baseball manager. Turning around, the entire team started walking up to the coach and Haven. Zero and I stayed in the back and talked.
"Hey. You see the rose in her hand? Think a guy gave it to her?" (Me)
"No. Can't be. You don't think?" (Zero)
"I think someone else is making a move before you do." (Me)
"But what if she don't like me like that?" (Zero)
"Oh, please. I think she likes you." (Me)
Making it to Haven, I wrapped my arm around her small shoulders laying her blonde hair down. Glancing at me, she seemed worried at my reaction to her. All I could do is smile at my silly sister. Such a beautiful and kind heart girl, yet people treat her so wrong. Maybe this will change.
"Hey, baseball manager. Ready for the season?" (Me)
"You are joking right?" (Haven)
"Not at all!" (Dakota)
"You will be perfect kid. Well that is it guys. See y'all when the season starts." (Coach)
Still wrapping my arms around Haven, I grabbed my stuff, and we exited the field. Of all the people would could ruin this day. We say her. The clown. I felt fear tighten on her shoulders the moment we saw her. What power did Jennifer have that made Haven fear her this much?
"Ha comforting your sister because she didn't get it. Ugly people aren't meant to sit in the dugout." (Jennifer)
"Then, you better go register for the ugly job. Haven got the spot." (Me)
"No way. Loser Haven got it?" (Jennifer)
"She is beautiful and has something better on you. She isn't fake." (Me)
Walking past the little brat, I felt Jennifer's anger boil. Tough luck. We don't like clowns doing tricks in the dugout. Letting my arm go around Haven, I began to investigate some things.
"So where did the rose come from?" (Me walking home)
"I found it in the locker with a note." (Haven walking home)
"Really now? A secret admirer?" (Me walking home)
"I think so. Seems like it." (Haven walking home)
"Aww. My little sister is growing up!" (Me walking home)
"Hey just cause you beat me by two minutes doesn't mean I am the younger sister." (Haven walking home)
"So was Zero doing what I ordered him to do?" (Me walking home)
"I guess you could say that." (Haven walking home)
"Did he hurt you?" (Me walking home)
"No, but I didn't like you telling him I liked him." (Haven walking home)
"OH come on, little bit." (Me walking home)
"It still wasn't cool." (Haven walking home)
"What do you like him?" (Me walking home)
"I am not sure." (Haven walking home)
"Don't think about what Jennifer said ok? Zero wouldn't hurt you." (Me walking home)
"If you say so." (Haven walking home)
"Well I have another question. Why do you let them girls do that do you? Haven, everyone loves you, yet they treat you like you are gum under their hideous heels." (Me walking home)
After saying that, Haven stood still. Turning around, I walked in front of my sister as she stared at her feet with the white rose in her hand. I did not have to see her brown eyes to notice the pain coming off of them. Her blonde hair covered her face.
"For years...they have tormented me. Pushed me to my limits. Prank me. Hurt me. Embarrass me. I was a outcast. My friends tried to help me, but they have lives. I didn't want to be a burden. They put in my head my life was useless. That it should be me in the hospital bed instead of you. I was alone. A victim. When you were pasted out, I would tell you how I felt, so I wouldn't stress you out. They made me feel like I should just disappear. I even wished to never be born. Now, it is just a every day like a daily basis." (Haven while tears fell down her face)
Running to my sister, I wrapped my arms around my sister hugging her tight. I can't believe she felt this way. She was a perfect actress. The fake smile even made me believe she was ok. Why? Why couldn't I be able to protect her? Stupid disease. I couldn't be able to protect her. I wasn't a bad brother. Now, I could be here for her, and I was going to make sure of it. Letting her cry in my arms, I felt her fingers cling on my shirt as her tears made my shirt wet. With my right hand, I combed down her blonde hair.
"I am sorry. I hate I could not be there for you when you needed me. You counted on me to be the older brother and protect. I wish I could change everything and give you the perfect high school life you want. You are a beautiful, kind heart, sweet and so much more to make you a amazing girl. Please. Anything you need me, I am here for you. Please always remember that. I love you, Haven. You are my twin. We have that twin connect thing you know." (Me)
A smile curved on that beautiful face of hers. Her blood shot eyes showed signs of thank you. The black lines from her tears ran down her face. Wiping her tears away, I smiled tried to get that smile back. The sunset was rays of orange and red while it disappeared from the sky. Grabbing Haven's arm, I tugged her to the house. For the rest of the night I was going to make sure she was happy. Just like I will for the rest of my life.
