When Trouble Calls
This was your third time visiting Slender. Right now you were laying on a tree branch waiting for him while reading your book. After you had accepted the apple last visit, he took you on a walk down to the lake. Then, you both just talked until the sun went down and he insisted that you go home. That was the first night in two weeks that your sleep was peaceful. You set your book on your chest and smiled up at the clouds. You tried to figure out what each cloud looked like to pass the time. "That one looks like a dragon, and that one looks like a bear. Oh, that one looks like a puppy-corn! (puppy/unicorn)" you thought as a deformed cloud passed overhead. You hear quiet laughter echo below you. You looked down to see Slender and regarded him with a smile.
"How did you get up there child?" he asked knowing the answer.
"I climbed, but could you do me a favor?" you asked. He cocked his head to show that he was listening. "Would you mind catching me? I don't think I can climb back down." You said looking at the ground which now seemed a lot further away.
"Why of course." he said as he held out his slender arms prepared to catch you. You took a deep breath and pushed off from the branch clenching your eyes shut. There was the few seconds of the sickening feeling of free fall that seemed to last for eons before you felt your body caressed in his strong arms. You slowly opened your eyes.
"I knew you would catch me." you said shakily. He put you genially on the ground as you tried to calm yourself. You were still so rushed from the adrenalin rushing through your veins.
"So, what would you like to do on this fine day." Slender asked politely.
"I'm not sure, but I cant stay very long because I have school tomorrow." you said sadly "So do you have any suggestions?" He paused before saying "Follow me."
You tried to follow closely, but with his legs being so long walking for him was nearly running for you. He slowed his pace patiently as you neared a field. It had one large tree in the center of it. Once he reached the tree, he grabbed a low branch with his tentacles and pulled himself up to rest on the branch. He offered you a hand up but you politely declined.
"I-I think I'm gonna stay on the ground for a while." You stammered sitting on the grass. With this he laughed and laid back on the branch. He opened his book and began to read silently. You tried to do the same but got very distracted after about five minuets. Once Slender had relaxed, his tentacles had slithered from his back and were now swaying freely in front of your face. You were so distracted because you were trying to fight the urge to bat at them like a kitten. So instead of reading you just observed the things around you. The animals, the plants, and especially Slender. I was mostly just the little things that caught your eye, like how his right foot would slightly twitch whenever he got to a good part in the story.
"You know, it's not polite to stare." echoed a teasing voice in your mind.
"I wasn't staring!" you thought
"Yes you were, you have been for a while." said the voice with an even more teasing tone. "I suppose I'd rather have you staring at me in contrast to batting at my tentacles."
"Would you stay out of my head?" you growled out loud. He jumped from the branch and landed gracefully next to you.
"I'm only joking." he said sadly believing you were actually mad. You gave him a reassuring look.
"I know, but could you please not read my mind as often? My mind is supposed to be the place where I can think anything and not have any consequences. I need my privacy."
"Of course, I didn't know it bothered you. I must warn you though, I will hear some of your thoughts even if I'm not trying to read you."
You smiled at him then checked your IPod. You gave an upset sigh, you had to go home now. "Well, I have to go now."
"I'll see you tomorrow?" he questioned as you stood up.
"Of course, see you after school." and with that you jogged back the way you came. The forest began to thin and once you were out it was beginning to rain. You put your hood up and plugged in your headphones. You put on some heavy metal on and walked down the street. In the distance you noticed three girls all older than you. "Oh no, not these guys." you screamed in your mind, you lowered your head and tried to not be noticeable.
"Hey headphones!" screamed one of the voices. You didn't look up. You tried to just keep moving forward but was stopped by meaty palm. It slammed into your chest knocking the breath out of you. The headphones were yanked from your ears. "Going deaf I suppose?" When you didn't reply the girl made a face and looked to both her friends. "So what are you doing?"
You raised your head and looked her dead in the eye. "Walking down the street!" you spat with as much venom as you could manage.
"Did you forget about the fee you must pay to walk the street?"
"I wouldn't pay you any money even if I had it to spare."
The girl raised an angry fist prepared to punch for the face. Before she could something stepped between you and her.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you." said Tony clenching his jaw. The girl looked him in the face and laughed.
"So, it's still two against three."
"I hoped you would say that." he said smiling. When the girl gave him a confused look he put his fingers to his mouth and whistled. As he did, four of his friends from earlier walked out from behind a fence. Two flanked him on each side standing like a protective barrier between you and the bullies.
"Now this could end in two ways." Tony said with a threatening tone "You could walk away now or you could crawl away after we're through with you."
The girls all looked at each other and slowly began to retreat. "This isn't over!" Said girl 1, "You won't always have your boyfriends around to protect you." and with that they were gone. The guys turned around with expecting looks on their faces, they were filled with pride.
"Thanks you guys." you said as a tear escaped from your eye. You gave Tony a hug and then turned to the next until everyone felt appreciated.
"Ok now, don't get all mushy on us." Tony said with a smile. "You guys go ahead, I'm gonna walk (Y/N) home." They all nodded and walked off down the street bot looking as if they actually knew what to do without their leader. Tony turned to you and offered his arm which you accepted gratefully.
"I don't know how to thank you." you said hugging onto his arm. He blushed.
"Friends look out for each other right?" he said as you walked up to your house "Well, I'll see you later." You gave him a hug goodbye and turned to your door. Once you walked in you immediately locked the door behind you. You ran up to your room and slammed it shut. The afternoon sun was shining through your window, but something was casting a shadow on the floor. You opened the window and realized that it was a note, in Slender's handwriting.
"Are you alright? I could see what was happening. You're lucky your friends got in the way, otherwise I might have had to "intervene." I can't wait to see you tomorrow.-Slender" You grabbed a pen and carefully wrote a reply trying not to let your hand shake.
"Yes, I'll be fine. I'm glad it didn't come to those drastic measures. I can't wait to see you either. Thank you for being concerned for me." You put the note back and stayed awake until you saw it disappear from the window. Then, you felt like you could sleep. "Good night Slender." you murmured.
(I'm very sorry for any spelling/grammar errors, I typed this faster than I normally do. I didn't really have time to read over it.)
