Forming the Team
Lunchtime. No sign of Ibalize so far. Thank God for that.I walk towards my locker when Sonic holds me up. And he's smiling. At me. What the heck?
"Come with me," he says, taking my hand. I walk with him to his classroom, as he locks the door behind him.
"All right, what's this about?" I ask.
"You not noticed yet?" he says. "Yesterday, the playground, those thugs?"
Where's he going with this?
"Yeah?" I say. "So? What's there to notice?"
"You're gonna need help taking them down," Sonic tells me.
"Yeah, I already got some help. From Elise."
"I meant from this side," he says. "Don't you get it? WE took them down yesterday, Hayley. No one else. But we did."
Wait a minute. He does have a point. Sonic and I defeated Sheena and sent the others running. It wasn't anyone else. It was him and me.
And he's right. I can't do it alone. Even with Elise and the troops, it won't be enough.
But then we hear a voice booming in the classroom. "I'm waiting for you, Suntora."
Ibalize.
"Yeah well show your face around here, Ibalize!" I shout.
"We wait for you round the back of Mobius High," Ibalize says. "If you do not show, every innocent life in this school will be butchered at my hands!"
"You got some nerve, creep!" Sonic shouts.
But then the voice of Ibalize fades from the classroom.
"I have to go," I tell Sonic.
"Not on your own, you're not," he says. "And not yet either."
Not yet?
"What do you mean 'not yet'?" I say.
He holds out his hand. "What I'm saying is, we have to work together on this."
He's right. We do have to work together. I take his hand. We'll take on Yaros together.
"Work together on what?" a voice calls from the door. Shadow was able to open the door.
Hang on. Wasn't the door locked? Then how did Shadow open it? What the hell?!
"If you're going to defeat that Yaros guy, then I want in," Shadow says. I look over at Sonic, but he only looks at me.
"Don't look at me," Sonic says to Shadow. "Hayley decides."
I look back at Shadow and nod. "You're in."
"Perfect," Shadow says. "So, what now?"
"We let Ibalize come," I say. "We lure him to the back of the school. And then, we attack."
"And when exactly is that gonna happen?" Sonic asks.
"Tonight," I say. "We lure him in tonight."
