Disaster!
That night, there was a large storm. Winds howled and rain pelted down from the sky. There was zero visibility on the deck. The yacht tossed and turned, threatening to capsize. Kate was in the room her family shared on the ship, hiding her face in the bedcovers. 'I wonder how Sally's doing,' she thought, 'She's probably alright. After all, she's used to riding on ships.' She timidly looked out the window and gasped at the tossing waves. Hiding herself in the blankets again, she waited until morning. The day came and it was still cloudy with a thick fog. The tempest had thrown them off course, and they weren't sure where they were. Kate was with Sally in the dining hall. Sally picked at her fried eggs.
"That was scary last night," she said.
"I thought that you would be used to it."
"I am, but that was the biggest storm I've ever been in!" She nibbled on a piece of bacon, "Besides, we don't know where we are! We're lost" Kate hadn't actually realized that fact, and she wished she hadn't at all. The weather was terrifying enough, but now she sat there, shuddering. 'We're lost,' she repeated to herself, 'We're lost at sea!'
The two girls decided to go onto the deck and take a look around. It didn't do much good, however. The fog made it so that they couldn't see anything from further away than about three meters. Suddenly someone shouted, "An island!" Kate and Sally both ran towards the front. Squinting, they could barely make out the shape of land. Kate nearly screamed with excitement and joy. They were saved! Sally, however, didn't look so well. She grasped her best friend's hand tightly and appeared frozen with fear.
"We're going too fast," she whispered.
"huh?"
"The ship's going to crash!" squeaked Sally.
Sure enough, there was a huge impact and the sounds of explosions. They were crashing.
