Wolves Of The Ravine (abandoned)

Chapter 5

Ferone shivered as Eison neared him with bared teeth. As he took a quick glance around the stony clearing, Ferone saw no merciful expression in any wolf's face. He bristled and avoided contact with the edge of the ravine. "What's with you?" He asked.

Eison glared at him and whispered harshly. "No outsider deserves to be in our pack." Before Ferone could move, Eison leaped gracefully and sent him flying in the air. Ferone hit the ground hard and stumbled to his feet, trying to regain his consciousness, only to be swatted by Eison.

He felt an urge to trick Eison, Ferone dropped to the floor. Seeing Ferone lying in pain- Eison's eyes burned with satisfaction as he leapt for a killing bite, his soft pounce gave Ferone the chance kick Eison off. The crowd gasped while Eison flew airborne, his eyes wide in shock before he landed with a dull thud to the ground. Ferone watched with unintentional pride and intended fear.

"Cheater!" A wolf yelled among the crowd.

Eison's chest heaved and Ferone felt thousands of glares piercing through his body. "This pup has proved himself." Came a booming voice, Alpha stood on a tall neat rock. His eyes pierced and his fur neatly groomed. There were a few groans of disapproval which were swiftly silenced by Alpha's growl. Ferone instantly felt guilt and embarrassment.

"B-but I've killed someone." He stammered. There were a few glances of hope for Ferone to be turned down. Alpha didn't look as if he was going to change his mind.

"Get up Eison." Alpha growled harshly, fortunately, the small brown wolf stumbled to his feet, his eyes burned with hatred instead of defeat. But he obeyed Alpha and held his ground, his lip curled in a menacing snarl. Alpha flicked his tail to a dark grey den, where Eison limped, his head down in humiliation.

Ferone felt only slightly relieved that he wasn't acknowledged a murderer, yet he could still feel hatred flowing down his pelt. "Rest, cub, you will get to know us all. Now get to the fourth den." Alpha's voice boomed in his ears, his tail pointed in a random direction which Ferone tried to follow with the assistance of Dremre.

Ferone still had many questions to ask, he instantly opened his mouth to retort to Dremre. "I could have died!" He growled. "If I didn't fall here, I would have stayed where I belong."

"You belong here!" Dremre snapped sharply. "You are a wolf and you don't belong in such a warm and lousy place above our ravine, face your destiny and the threats you encounter."

"But how come that 'wolf' was allowed to make me go in such an unfair battle?" Ferone protested bitterly. Dremre paused, letting out a sigh she finally answered him after a minute of silence.

"That wolf you saw was Ipuos, he is Alpha's left claw wolf." Dremre informed him.

"So?" Ferone boldly barked, unconvinced.

Dremre rolled her eyes and then re-explained. "Ferone, any left claw wolf of Alpha almost has as much authority as him, except Alpha has authority over them."

"What's with all these dens?" Ferone found himself asking.

"Well, there are eight dens that can fit up to four wolves." Dremre explained. "They were naturally formed and were once inhabited by our ancestors."

"You mean there are thirty-two wolves in the pack?!" Ferone barked in shock. Dremre shook her head, amusement danced in her eyes as if she enjoyed Ferone's reaction.

Dremre took a quick glance at the starry sky. "Ferone I'll tell you everything tomorow, you need to rest first." She quickly informed him as she helped him settle into a nest lined with moss.

Ferone fell into a pleasant sleep, surprisingly, Dremre's warm pelt reminded him of when he was young, a tranquil time that could never been forgotten.
