Remembering
I don't know how long Harry held me, or how we ended up on the couch, him still holding me. I don't know why I let him, either. I didn't know him, not really. He didn't know why I was crying, or who Jake was. He didn't know anything about me besides my name, address and favorite bands. When I finally calmed down, Harry walked away. I assumed he was leaving me, who would want to hang out with a sobbing girl anyway? I didn't hear the door open though. All I heard was the sound of ice hitting the bottom of a cup, and water running.
"Here you go," Harry said softly.
I opened my eyes and saw a glass of water which I graciously accepted. Once I had drank half of it, it told Harry thank you.
He shrugged. "So, can you tell me what all that was about?"
I still got flutters everytime he spoke to me, but this made me feel uneasy. I hadn't told anyone what happened, not even my bestfriend. But there was something about Harry that I trusted.
"Look, if it's personal then-"
I cut him off, "No, I'll tell you."
He sat down beside me, leaning towards me. "Whenever you're ready," the side of his mouth quirked up.
I took a deep breath. "I went to a party Saturday night."
~Flashback, Saturday night~
I walked into the building, Emily guiding me through the crowd. I didn't want to come, but Emily guarenteed this was the best beginning of the school year party. It was held at one of the Fraternities, so the booze was unlimited and the guys were good looking (AKA, if I wasn't already in relationship, I would definately be hitting on them). It seemed every student had showed up.
Emily yelled over the music, "I'm getting a drink, want one!?"
I nodded.
She turned, but I grabbed her arm.
"Will you look for Jake?!?!" I asked.
She nodded then bounded off.
I stood awkwardly, examining the room. There was multiple couples around the room making out. A group of girls ran by me, wearing nothing but their bra and underwear. Some guy was passed out on the table, a Sharpie mustache had been added, along with high-heels, 3D glasses, a skirt, and a pink wig. The living room area had been turned into a make-shift dance floor, the stereo obviously turned up to its maximum volume. In the kitchen, coolers were spread out, and a group was playing beer pong. I didn't want to check the bedrooms.
I had to admit, this was a pretty good party. Jake was going to be so excited to see me!
Earlier, I asked him to come over to my apartment, but he said he had already promised his buddies he was going to the party. I was disapointed, but I really wasn't up for partying. But then Emily showed up at my apartment and forced me to come with her. I was glad I came. Me and Jake haven't seen each other in person in almost a week. It doesn't sound like alot, but just a few days can seem like an eternity when you're in love.
I smiled just thinking about him. We were so right for each other. Even my parents agree there couldn't be a better match. There was just something about the way he looked at me, and how I felt around him. Like there was no one else in the world, like nothing could ever keep us apart. Or how I trusted him with everything, and he did the same with me. I loved him. He loved me. We talked about getting married (after college, on the beach, honeymoon in Hawaii), how many kids we wanted (2, preferably), where we wanted to live (somwhere warm, near a beach).
Emily appeared by my side, smiling. She had a red cup in her right, another one in the left. I took it from her and took a big sip. It was hot in here.
"Did you find Jake?!" I asked her.
"No. But there are so many people here!" She threw her empty cup on the ground. "Let's dance!" She said, towing me to the dance floor.
Normally, I would have resisted. But the alcohol was already giving me a buzz, so I didn't see why not.
We danced for a while, and after I had two more drinks, me and Emily slow danced together as a joke.
When the slow song ended, I laughed and clumsily walked off to the side. Emily followed, giggling.
"I have to pee!!!" I yelled extremely loud.
"What?!?!" Emily joked.
"I really do!!!" I yelled back. I was pretty drunk. "Hey, imma go to the bathroom and you gemme another drink, kay?" My words slurred together.
She pushed me towards the hallway, and went in search of drinks.
All the doors looked the same, fuzzy and kind of lop sided. So I opened one of them.
"Oh sh*t," I said. When I opened the door, it wasn't the bathroom. It was a bedroom, occupied by a brunette girl straddeling a guy. Thankfully, I had opened the door kind of early, so no clothes had been taken off, but I did scare them quite a bit.
The girl flopped off the guy, giving me a sort of embarrased grin. The guy sat up to see who it was.
Despite the drinks, I was sober enough to realize who it was.
"Jake?" I asked.
Jakes face turned from confusion to pain. "Laura, this isn't what it looks like," he shot up from the bed.
I held my hands in front of me. "We'll talk about this tomorrow. Obviously, I interuppted something," I shoved Jake hard.
~End of flashback~
"I found Emily and we left, but I was too shocked to say anything to her then," I wiped a tear from my eye.
Harry examined me carefully. "He's an idiot."
I nodded.
"Next time I see him," Harry began, "I'm going to beat his ass."
I let out a small laugh. "I just don't understand. He said he loved me," a new set of tears came. Softer this time.
Harry reached out, his hands on either side of my face, and used his thumbs to wipe my tears away.
"I"m sorry, this is probably not how you expected this night to turn out," I stood up, clearing trash away.
"It's not. But I was glad I came," he smiled at me. He checked the time on his phone. "I should probably leave."
I nodded, tossing an empty container away. Suddenly, Harry was extremely close to me. I looked up, into his deep green eyes. Before I even understood what was happening, Harry leaned down and gave my cheek a quick kiss.
"Jake doesn't deserve you," Harry said. "Bye, Laura."
