Hurting
My first reaction was to slam the door in his face. But he stuck his foot in so I couldn't."Laura, please," Jake begged. He looked like hell. His eyes were red, his hair was wet and shaggy, AND I saw a massive pimple coming on. Good, he deserved it.
"Leave," I ordered.
"Give me a chance to explain!" He took a step in my apartment, his eyes never leaving mine.
"Name one reason I should," I crossed my arms in front of my chest.
He sighed. "You're right, I don't deserve to explain myself. But I want you back, Laura."
Tears welled up in my eyes. "Go away."
He looked pained. "Please listen."
I didn't say anything.
"Look, I had a few drinks. And I was just sitting there, all of a sudden she was all over me. I tried to push her off but-"
Before I could even register what I was doing, my hand connected with his face. My hand stung from the force I had put behind the smack. His cheek burned red.
"Laura, what the hell?" He asked, his fingers grazing the handprint I had left. I hoped it hurt. I hoped the hand print stayed there long enough to punish him.
"Get out, now," I pointed out the door.
He stood there.
All of a sudden, there was a voice close behind me saying, "Is there a problem over here?" Harry asked.
Jake looked confused. He gave me a pained look that hurt my heart. "No," Jake muttered.
"Then go, me and Laura were in the middle of something," Harry moved himself between me and Jake.
Jake backed out the door, "I love you," he said right before Harry closed the door on his face.
I lost it. I thought I was out of tears, but obviously not. I tried to hold it back but it was too late.
Then, strong arms were around me. There was hands smoothing my hair.
I didn't want to move, ever.
