A Sparkle of Romance

Chapter 3

I left Twighlight to go to bed and went outside to guard. The golden yellow eyes still staring at me.

"I know somepony's there. Come out."

The pony with yellow eyes came out of the shadows, his dark blue coat shining in the moon light, bat's wings with holes and his jet black mane that had a red strike at the left side. He smirked at me.

"Miss me, puffy?"

"This is no time to joke Shadow Fire. What are you doing here?"

I gritted my teeth. He smirked again but this time showing his fangs. His dangerous weapon that can kill me.

"I'm here to pick up princess Twighlight."

Then I darted straight at him. Shadow swiftly dodged and tried to bite me but I bucked his face with full force. He stumbled a bit but regained his balance.

"What for?!"

He didn't answer, instead he dashed to me. I didn't dodge in time and got pinned down by his hooves crushing my wings.

"I see you haven't healed fully yet!"

He crushed my wings harder. I kneed him in the stomach but it didn't seem to work.

"Nice try puffy! Oh and I saw you and your little princess being very friendly."

Then a streak of magenta aura was shot at Shadow knocking him to the ground. I looked up and saw Twighlight from her bedroom window looking at Shadow and pinned HIM down on the ground with her magic . I got up and Twighlight came downstairs, outside, still pinning Shadow down.

"Princess! How did you-"

"I heard the racket from upstairs you know. And you sir." She looked at Shadow "why are you here?"

"I have a letter for you from princess Luna. But is you'd let me go get it over by the lamppost I'd be glad to show you."

Me and the princess nodded.

Twilight

The night pony went to his saddlebag by the lamppost and handed me a letter with a red seal. That means it's an emergency! I read it quickly.

"Right. We'll go tommorrow night . But for now come inside, both of you."

When we got inside I gave shadow a wet towel, a cup of tea and a pillow.

"Keep that wet towel covering the big burn on you neck. And Flash a minute in your room."

Flash followed me into his room and closed the door.

"Yes princess?"

I gestured him to sit next to me.

"Who in the name of Celestia is the pony outside?!"

"My used-to-be best friend when I wad in school, Shadow Fire."

"Wait! Used to be?!"

"Yeah. And no more questions about him okay?'

Flash

"Fine. But this'll hurt a little!"

"What'll hurt a litt- OW!"

I was cut off by an ice pack stinging one of my cuts. Then she leaned to me and kissed my slightly dark purple cheek then exited.

"Night Flash!"

When the door closed. I was all shades of purple, pink and blood-red. But I was trained not to have any feelings of affection to the pony I was supposed to protect. Then I went to bed right after.

Twighlight

I  woke up the next morning, shadow was still asleep on the floor, his burn gone. I went to the kitchen and greeted Spike. He was making a salad, bread, fruits in a bowl and mash potatoes.

"Okay, Twighlight, breakfast's ready! Dig in I already ate so I'm gonna go and clean up outside"

Flash came in right after Spike went out and closed the door. Then he sat down infront of me.

"Good morning princess."

"Good morning Flash."

I smiled at him then took a bite from my salad. Then he started laughing.

Flash

I saw a carrot on her muzzle which made me laugh. Then she looked confused but eventually she noticed the carrot and put one from her salad on her hoof. Then she pressed it against my forehead and grinned. Then I took a loaf of bread and stuck it on Twighlight's horn. She stared at me. I started regretting what I just did. Then she smiled mischievously.

"Wanna do this tough guy? You GOT it!"

And started throwing mashed potatoes, fruits and lettuce at me. Food by food I dodged but still got a few hits, we started laughing and giggling, and then she ran out of ammo so she she jumped at me pinning me on the floor. Ouches between my laughs and after a minute or so Twighlight (still pinning me down) leaned closer and closer to my head and slowly shut her eyes. I knew what she was trying to do.

"Listen, princess."

She stopped

"As much as I'd love to......we....can't"

"Can't we just ignore that..... Just for once.."

"I'm really sorry but I'm trained not to."

I got up and walked out of the room. Shadow was awake now and saw the look on my face.

"Listen puf-  I mean Flash I know you probably hate me by now but I heard everything from out here."

"It's none of your business, okay?"

I walked past him to my room . I sat in there thinking about what just happened. I wiped my breakfast off of me, put on my golden armour and went outside to guard.

Twighlight

The day was long but eventually it was night and was time for me to leave to princess Luna's cave castle. I packed a book of useful spells, an apple and a comb into my saddle bag. Then I walked downstairs and saw Flash in full golden armour which covered his shins and neck. Shadow looked the same and was ready for an overnight journey to princess Luna's castle.

When we were outside in the crisp cold of midnight Flash carried me on his back and set flew off with Shadow leading. Then as we were in midair I whispered to Flash.

"Can we really trust this guy?"

"Look at the embelem on my armour princess. It means I am your loyal guard and I will protect you if we can't trust Shadow Fire"

I hugged him around his neck and fell asleep.

             ...................

"Wake up princess, we're here."

I woke up, it was still night, my hooves still around him. And I saw a grim looking cave ahead of us..... The entrance was really dark from the view from where we were flying..... I got really nervous and hugged Flash tighter......
