Chapter 6
Aeron swiveled her head to look back at me. Seeing the confusion and doubt on my face she began to speak, “We’re going to Glaux Chapel!” She hooted over the sound of the wind. “I don’t know much about what’s happening, but Sofia told me to get you!”
“Yeah! Sophia is definitely a doer, not a waiter. When we get there I need to knock some sense into that owl! She could get hurt!” Aeron nodded her head and turned it back so that it was facing forward.
As Glaux Chapel neared us, I could see the glinting white roof and the spire with a statue of an owl with silver, flowing wings on the top of it. Glaux, or so they say. I thought. We flew over to the small balcony and lighted down. I heard gasps and shattering glass from inside.
“We better hurry.” I said to Aeron. We walked inside and nearly fainted from the sight. There was Sofia, battling Shardloss, WITH *BATTLE CLAWS!!!!!!!!!
“STOOOOOP EVERYTHING!” I screeched louder than I had screeched before. In a huff I flew up to where Shardloss and Sofia were fighting and whacked them both in the head with my wings.
“WHAT IN HAGSMIRE IS GOING ON! Why is is, this, UPRISING happening?” A few owl mumbled and began to shuffle out of the building. “STOP!” I screeched. They all turned around adn waited for me to speak. In a clear and calm voice I began.
“Today as I was in the classroom Shardloss came up to me and asked me if I believed in Glaux. I said no, for I do not. As soon as I said it, Shardloss raked across my face with his talons, leaving this injury.” O said as I showed them the three claw marks, still glistening red. “It is my idea that no matter what you believe in you should be treated fairly.” I flapped my wings as I began to rise to the ceiling, speaking louder the higher I went up. “ALL OWLS SHOULD BE TREATED FAIRLY! WE ARE ALL OWL, INSIDE OURSELVES. WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IN GLAUX OR NOT, WE ARE ALL THE SAME!” The owls in the crowd went wild, flting high and screeching and hooting. In the light of the chapel I felt free. And, strangely enough, I saw an owl made of golden light in front of me.
“You stood up for yourself and set yourself apart. Even though I do exist I want you to go around the owl world spreading your message.” The light disappeared and I lighted down to the floor in a daze. Sofia and Aeron came up to me and lifted me up. We flew back to my hollow and I collapsed into the father’s wings.
“Where were you Leanna? I looked everywhere for you.” I mumbled an answer and stumbled over to my nest. I fell asleep and never looked back. Ever.
