Chapter 4
“Oh my! Leanna, what happened!” Sofia asked as she lighted down on the support beam.
“Shardloss.” I whispered.
Sofia immediately fluffed up her feathers in anger.
“WHAT! How dare he! He’s gonna wish he never did whatever he did which I don't know because you didn't tell me,” I touched Sofia with the tips of my wings as she spread her wings. “Sofia, don’t. I need to do this myself, Shardloss needs to be tamed.” Our eyes met and they both sparkled. In a low voice she began to speak.
“Remember when we were younger, you, me, and Aeron would joke that Shardloss was the dragon from our story book who wanted to conquer the world and we said that Shardloss not only wanted to take over us but he would make us all have a whorl of black feathers on our head?“ I nodded and laughed a little. It felt good to laugh, after what just happened.
“Thanks, Sofia, for everything. I have to go now, kay? See ya in 2nd period!” I said as I jumped off the beam and lighted down on the floor of the Great Hollow. I walked over to the tunnel that led to Mr.Flappity Flap Flap’s classroom. Mr.Flappity Flap Flap is a tiny Northern Saw-Whet with a screechy voice and surprisingly large wings.
“Hey, now darling, you're late!” He screeched as I ran into the classroom to find that everyone was already sitting down.
“Sorry Sir.” I said under my breath as I sat down at my table, diagonal from my 2nd beast friend, Aeron. I said “Hi” to her and got my folder out of my satchel that we use to carry our stuff.
Halfway during class I felt a piece of paper hit my back. I turned around but nothing looked out of the ordinary. A couple of owl were sleeping, the popular kids were gossiping, and the nerdy kids were cleaning their glasses and jotting down notes. I picked up the paper and opened it. Inside there was scrawly writing. I peered in closer and began to read.

Leanna, this’s is from Sofia,
Shardloss sure is mad, he skipped most of school and he’s gathering his gang. He is still going to fourth period, but you know how his gang isn’t allowed in there ‘cause they scare the young’uns, but still, PLEASE BE CAREFUL! I can’t lose you your my friend! Be careful on the way home,
Sofia

        Uh oh.
The rest of school went by like a flash,  but there still was fourth period. Fourth Period. With Shardloss. Working on a project. In which I AM PARTNERED UP WITH HIM!
I walked into the classroom hoping that I looked strong, wonderful, powerful. Like Shardloss meant nothing at all. I looked around and saw that no one noticed me, but as soon as I sat down at my table everyone else scooted away and began to whisper. Larper, a silvery Great Grey Owl AKA Miss I-Am-So-Popular-I-Make-The-Rules-And-I-Am-So-Pretty-I-L0VE-SHOES, who does not know how to whisper, began to talk to Starchia, her best popular friend.
“Look, it’s, like, that, like weird girl, who, like, Shardloss, like, said is weird, like, because she doesn't, like, believe in Glaux.” Every ‘Like’ was accented by a wing flap. The great gusts caused my papers to fall to the floor and she started laughing.
“HAHAHAHAHAHA! LIKE, LEANNA DROPPED HER PAPERS HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” It wasn’t funny at all. Nobody else seemed to think it was funny either.
Suddenly, everyone quieted down and looked to the door. In came Shardloss, with his whole gang!
“I’m just ‘ere ta take out ‘da trash.” He said as he looked in my direction. I wilfed to half, no, a third, no, a fourth of my normal size. Then, I realized something, or more, remembered something. Do not go gently into thy good night, those whose words have forked no lightning do not go gently into thy good night. I thought to myself. I WILL NOT GO GENTLY!
