Chapter 1

Chapter 1 It all started on a cold and blustery winter night. The sky was clear and a full moon had shone down. I remember waking up with a headache and an empty stomach. Sadly, my father had already left for work at TreeCorps, so there was nothing to eat. I stumbled to the edge of the hollow, opened my wings, flapped them a couple of times to get the feel of it, and jumped. I  beat my wings madly, but I was still able to feel that cushion of air that your feathers catch when you first take off.
I started to ascend and then began to soar towards the *RichWood MapleHieghts Elementary Tree. The RWMHE Tree is a huge sequoia tree with a very thick trunk filled with classroom-sized hollows perfect for learning and studying. There are tunnels inside the tree that connect all the hollows, and there are three big areas, one is our cafeteria, one is the main hollow, and the one that is big enough to fly around in is the gym.
I flew over to the back entrance and entered into the main hollow. There was a small crowd of other owls coming in. I went over to the breakfast line where they were serving varied bits of disgusting school food. This day was the worst. Leftover day, AKA, Thursday. This days breakfast was mystery rat surprise. Ew. Even though my stomach was clawing through my skin to get something to eat, there was NO WAY I was eating that! So instead I let myself be pushed towards my classroom by the sea of other owls. I called it the Owl Express.
“Welcome to Room 205 Station.” I whispered under my breath as I jumped away from the mass of students. Most owls file into the gym or the cafeteria to eat and play until the bell rings for first period, but I always go into the classroom and eat in there, at least when there is something good to eat. That day I had just gone in there and put down my my stuff. I walked over to the window and looked outside.
Suddenly, I heard the distinct clacking-of-talons-against-wood-floor-sound. Being a Barn Owl, I have extraordinary  hearing abilities. And then I had noticed that one of the talons had a certain ‘clink’ noise.
