On A Run. And Busted.
The next morning, my eyes flutter open at the sound of my alarm clock going off. It's sound is annoying, BEEP BEEP BEEP, as if it thinks I will never get up! I angrily throw the covers off of myself and leap to my feet, slamming a hand down, hitting a button to silence it. I fight the urge to hurl it into a wall. I take a deep breath, hoping I didn't wake my father. I doubted it. But I had to have the alarm clock, just to make sure I'd wake up.With a sigh, I stumble over to my dresser, still in the dark as the sun has yet to come up over the ground. I don't bother turn on the light, yet. I yank open a dresser, immediately wincing as a stab of agony shakes up my side. I grit my teeth, ignoring it, and feel my fingers through the fabrics. I easily recognize the soft mesh material of basketball shorts, then the fleecy material of a sweatshirt, and then a t-shirt. It works. I rummage through another drawer for smaller articles of clothing, such as socks. Still, without a light. My feet shuffle across the wood floor as I stagger tiredly across the room. I dress quickly and I let my toes drag across the floor. They run into a familiar, hard, coarse material and I deftly bend down and hoist my bag to my shoulders. I let out a gasp as my side feels like its being attacked by needles. I stubbornly shake it off and creep through the house, my bag on my shoulders. My eyes dart around, making sure no one is watching. As if my father would be awake. He's probably wasted in his room, probably won't get up for hours. I slip out of the house, quiet as possible and take off on a run down the street, my pale green eyes flit from house to house as my back thuds painfully on my back. Books, a laptop, a phone, and countless papers all bounce inside the bag with each abrupt stride. I find running difficult, as the weight throws off my small build.
It's getting a little lighter out, the sky an eerie grey as the sun stretches up over the horizon.
A bolt of lightning seers through my body and I fall to the ground, paralyzed from the jolt and with fear, a silent scream that will never be heard leaves my lips.
