How did this whole "Holy water vs Satan" thing start anyways? Me and quite a few others are wondering

water was associated with cleaning so it became associated with purity, baptism, and removing sins. that's why in recent media it's used as a weapon against satan. he's sin and flesh if you believe in the bible
