Yes. Your friend should understand that you have as much of a right to the role as them. Make sure to talk about it before, though. Make an agreement that no matter what there will be no hard feelings.

sure you can! don't make it into a competition, but if you want to audition for that part, then you audition for that part!

Yes! It doesn't matter if your friend is auditioning for it as well. Audition for the role you want.
