Internal self-helpers (ISHs) are alters who primarily exist within the headspace and soothe other alters from the inside in order to minimize negative feelings within the system as a whole. ISHs may also be in charge of looking after child alters and calming alters including the host during triggering or traumatic moments, inside and outside of the headspace. Because these alters rarely front (control the body), sometimes the host may not know about them for a while.
