WILD HIKING TRIP TODAY ????
~aka the story of how i almost got a squirrel killed~
So theres this canyon that we sometimes go to hike, it has a lot of squirrels running amuck. Theres this one thicket in particular where fat fearless squirrels hang out, i mean like "go right up to you and eat out of your hand" fearless. So thats exactly what we do, we bring trail mix and feed the nuts to the squirrels. Today for some reason the thicket wasn't very populous with its usual residents, See More so we were about to give up and go home when i heard a crack in one of the dried up bushes. I went on to investigate with a bunch of almonds and cashews in my hand and find a small squirrel frozen and alert in the thicket. I crouch down and start clicking my tongue to call it to me, holding my hand full of trail mix out. The squirrel slowly unfreezes and starts making its way towards me, hardly making a sound. Once there was about a foot seperating us the squirrel seemed ready to come out of the thicket. It paused and then did a quick leap/bound towards me when suddenly a BLACK MOTHEREFFING SNAKE LUNGES OUT FROM THE BUSH AT THE SQUIRREL, MOUTH OPEN WITH ALL ITS FANGS AND SHIT. The poor squirrel twists away midair and gets its ass out of there, like ive never seen a squirrel run so fast. The snake the coils back into a spiral and kinda just sits there staring at where thw squirrel went. Naturally Im screaming inside "IM SO SORRY LITTLE SQUIRREL ITS ALL MY FAULT I ALMOST GOT YOU KILLED" but Im kinda scared for myself too, like how long was that snake there? Its all black with this white diamond pattern on its underbelly, and a white chin (any idea what type of snake it is guys?) So yeaaaaaah sorry squirrel i probably scarred you for life. Also I caught a lizard by the tail but ???

UPDATE: Its most likely a northern pacific rattlesnake, (rattlesnakes are common in the canyon) however this particular snake was missing a rattle and its tail ended abrubtly without thinning out. its rattle mustve gotten ripped off or something, poor thing.
