Longpelt's Retirement (Chapter 22)
It has been a week since Cindertuft had became the new Medicine Cat, and since Longpelt retired. Cindertuft didn't blame Longpelt for retiring because she knew how old and tired Longpelt was after being Medicine Cat for the longest time. You see, Longpelt was older than the other clans' old Medicine cats. Longpelt was known to be the best and wisest (and oldest) Medicine cat in all the clans. Longpelt was praised for her work and she was loved by all the clans, even Shadowclan.~~ At The Next Gathering ~~
As a group of Thunderclan cats were going to the Gathering, they passed the Shadowclan group, who was also going to the Gathering. Everyone talked to their friends in each clan as they made their way to the spot. When they arrived, Cindertuft tried to avoid Hawkpaw. Hawkpaw caught up to her though and explained that their break up was a mistake and that he wishes she would take him back. Cindertuft didn't know if she could trust him anymore, but she gave him a second chance because she still loved him. He then told her that he was a warrior now and that his name was Hawkflame.
~~Thunderclan's turn to speak at the Gathering ~~
It made everyone in every clan sad/disappointed to hear of Longpelt's retirement at the Gathering. "...It had to be done. Longpelt is now an elder and she is thankful for all of your praises, love, loyalty, and trust you have given her for as long as she was a Medicine cat!" Snowstar said when it was Thunderclan's turn for a report on how everything was going with the clan. The clans cheered and looked back at Longpelt, who was smiling softly. "We also have a new Medicine cat. Her name is Cindertuft and she was Longpelt's apprentice." Snowstar said and everyone cheered again. Cindertuft smiled and looked around and saw that Hawkflame was also cheering.
~~ After The Gathering/Back At Thunderclan Camp ~~
Everyone was too tired to stay up to tell stories about what happened at the Gathering. A few stayed up though and told a few apprentices, who were still awake, what happened. It was almost Moonhigh and Longpelt told Cindertuft that she would be in the Elders' Den from now on. Cindertuft didn't like the fact that she would be alone in the Med Den, but she accepted the fact and nodded. Cindertuft then tiredly padded to the Med Den and settled down in her nest. Sleep then consumed her and she was out.
