Enraged

Attempted Murder

The officers had no proof to condemn her. The truth would be revealed by Mr Derois only but he was in a coma. This lasted for 48 hours only, he was conscious and aware of his condition in the hospital. His version of events was awaited.


After talking about his health, the officers slowly approached the subject…
“Mr Derois… about the fire… do you know who caused it?”
He stared at the ceiling without uttering a syllable. “Mr Derois… we need to investigate further… if it was just an accident then tell us, but we believe it is not just an accident! Do not be afraid, you are safe with us around. Help us in our-“

“It’s her.” Mr Derois looked pale and frightened yet he spoke, “It’s her. Sanjana. She will kill me. Sanjana. She is out after my life. She will. I know she will, yes, she did it. Sanja-ana-a she..”
The officers left the room.
“Sanjana… Isn’t she Mrs Derois? Sanjana Derois!”

“Mrs Derois! Your husband is in the hospital because of you, your house is in ruins while your daughter will be put in a home if you do not cooperate with us!” Mention of her daughter made her flinch and look at the officer.

“We know it’s you Mrs Sanjana Derois! Your husband gave his testimony and he looked rather frightened by you! Is this a case of domestic violence or just attempt to murder or was it all just an accident?” Seeing how she remained impassive to their questions the officers were annoyed.
“Mrs Derois, you cannot remain silent like this. Your daughter would have lost her father because of your recklessness. What happened? What actually happened that night?” The officer banged on the table! He was annoyed now! He had been patient for 2 days but enough was enough now! Sanjana Derois had to talk now and he would force her to talk!


Snatching a pail of water, he threw the water on her. She was not surprised and she kept her head down. “MRS DEROIS!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WHY LET YOUR HUSBAND SUFFER AND YOU CHILD BE SNATCHED FROM YOU!!! STOP THIS STUPID NONSENSE AND GET BACK TO YOURSELF NOW!”


Another officer added, “ Mrs Derois, you do know you will burn in hell like this right? I believe you are an Indian and are attached to your religious views like me.” She looked at the man who was speaking, he was Indian like her in this foreign country and she sighed. She had not heard about her religion for a while. Tears accumulated in her eyes. Her vision was blurry and she trembled.
“Mrs Derois, aren’t you at fault here? You started this fire right?”
“DAMN IT OF COURSE SHE STARTED IT! GET IT STRAIGHT SANJANA DEROIS, I WILL GIVE JUSTICE TO YOUR HUSBAND.”


She was crying now, tears rolled down her cheeks. Her white face was expressionless and a pained look covered her eyes. She was pitiful among those officers. She was away from her native country, had left her family for her husband and settled down in England for the wellbeing of her small family. She had tried her best not to falter in her roles but that seemed like the end of her efforts. She couldn’t keep up the act anymore.
The officer kept shouting and banging the table. He shouted and yelled in her ears, threw water in her face and threatened her. It was the limit now and she felt it.
“YOUR DAUGHTER WILL-“
“YES I DID IT!!!!!” she said it. Everyone was shocked, it was the first words she had said in 2 days of non-stop questioning and pestering from the officers. “Yes I did it. I wanted to kill him- my..husband...”
