“How did the fire break out...?” The matter was now in the hands of the police. The next day, the mansion was out of reach of the public and sealed for investigation. Apparently, the fire started in the room of the couple. It was concluded that Mr Derois was already asleep and a lighter was found near his bed. It was around 2am that the fire alarm was given by neighbors. It was nothing casual that caused the fire; a simple lighter would not burn down a whole mansion in less than 5mins. Petrol was thrown in the fire to increase the flames such that Mr Derois was trapped in the room left to burn alive. What about his wife and their daughter then? How did they escape and why wasn’t she the one to give the fire alarm since she got out of the mansion?!
Mrs Derois was brought to the station for enquiries. She was still in a trauma and remained silent although the officers asked her about her, her daughter and her husband. She stared blankly at the table and chair in front of her in this dark room lit only by a lamp above her head. When the epic long-awaited question: “Were you the one to start the fire?” was asked, Mrs Derois closed her eyes and kept her vow of silence.
