Encounter of the sans kind

As I slammed the two big doors shut I rested my head on one of the big doors, my face felt hot from having to put up with that flower again and having to persuade Toriel to let me go and leave the ruins...... Either these doors were really thick and shut out flowey's voice or he just shut his mouth the instant I slammed them shut. I hesitated for a moment and then I turned around feeling the cold snowy air run through my hair hitting me dead in the face "ah...... Man if it isn't the natural AC here" I spoke aloud looking around a bit. The area was forest like and covered in snow and this was the kind of weather I prefered. It was nice and calm too not a fierce blizzard like it would get around the outside of the mountain at time getting to unbearable cold temperatures of around zero to ten celsius, at which point my legs would start to lock up due to some unfortunate early arthritis development making it hard to move around in severe cold temperatures without causing myself pain every step I took.

The familiar crunch of snow was heard from my boots as I walked along the path, as I did I looked back towards the doors of the ruins and frowned a bit thinking of what Toriel had said about some monster named asgore and that his minions would find me and kill me. I mean I've read up on ancient folklore about humans and monsters once living together and how humans could easily kill monsters like sticking a knife through butter but, who knows maybe monsters have bulked up over time. I looked back ahead and saw a small little bridge crossing with big bars spaced apart waaaaay to much to really stop  anything.

I stepped over a twig as I headed towards the small little passing and as I got closer and closer with every long stride I took I heard a loud snap! I knew it was a twig but it reminded me of how bones sound when they get cracked sometimes, I was already at the small crossing and I heard loud thunderous footsteps behind me...... Sweat drops trickled down my forehead "holy crap....." I thought "what or who is big enough to have footsteps loud enough to wake the dead...." They got closer and closer.....

THUMP THUD THUMP THUD THUMP THUD THUMP THUD

I was starting to shake a bit but then I heard a voice and froze "Heya mind turnin around" the voice sounded fairly monotone and deep but I did as the voice commanded and I turned around and saw nothing "uh.... Heya down here, not all of us are as tall as the trees ya know" "huh?" I said and lowered my head and eyes down to see standing right in front of me a short chubby, well I don't know if skeletons can be chubby, skeleton wearing a blue hoodie and black shorts along with fluffy slippers and a white t shirt. The skeleton held out its hand with its big smile plastered on its face.

"Well don't just stand there bein "stumped" more then a "trunk" go on shake my hand it's a sign of friendship 'n whatnot" my mind was a bit unclear on what to do next but I did pick up on those awful puns as he emphasized them as he spoke but he seemed alright, alright as a chubby skeleton can be I reached out with my hand and squeezed his boney little hand as a loud fart noise was heard FFFFFFFFFT "whoops, how did that get in my hand" the skeleton chuckled a bit and looked up at me "My name is sans what's yours jolly green" jolly green? I've heard that before but coming from this guy it seemed hilarious for some reason to me "My names Zeal" "pleasure to meet you zeal, now lemme tell you something you see my brother and I are sentinels for the Kings army and you see we're supposed to capture humans but I'm too lazy to do my job properly always nappin and doin double jobs and my brother he set up those bars right there and those are way to big to stop anything so if you'd just pass through you'll be fine trust me" he winked at me, I shrugged "alrighty then I guess....." I walked through the bars and saw a little booth nearby what must've been sans and his brothers guard post but no other guard was seen but then I heard a loud voice

"SANS! OH WHERE IS THAT LAZYBONES BROTHER OF MINE!?" sans looked up at me "Heya why dontcha hide over there behind that conveniently shaped lamp" I looked over and saw a lamp that matched the shape of my body "how the......" I was baffled but stood next to it from behind blending in I suppose I could see sans from were I was and hear but to him I just looked like a lamp. I saw a tall skeleton wearing red armour type clothing walk over with red gloves boots and what seemed like latex stretched over his arm and leg bones along with a scarf wrapped around his neck "LAZYBONES YOUR SUPPOSED TO BE AT YOUR POST LOOKING OUT FOR HUMANS!" he went on "oh hi papyrus, yeah I was looking out for humans but I'm on break" sans spoke in a bouncy voice but still monotonish "YOU'VE BEEN ON BREAK FOR THE PAST THREE HOURS!" The tall skeleton boomed "I've been on break for that long because I've been working to the "bone" he winked and did a spin, I couldn't help but grin at that "AUGH PLEASE DO NOT START WITH THE PUNS, THE GREAT PAPYRUS SHOULDNT HAVE TO ENDURE SUCH A CRUEL MEANS OF TORTURE! NOW COME OVER HERE AND LEND ME A HAND!" the tall skeleton was holding a box meanwhile sans just popped off one of his hands and tossed it at Papyrus's feet "SANS PUT YOUR HAND BACK ON RIGHT THIS INSTANT AND HELP ME WITH THESE HUMAN TRAP DEVICES" sans just looked at the box and then at him "I'd love to help ya out pap but I still have another hour on my break" sans just looked up at him "SANS..... YOU KNOW WHAT FORGET IT! THE GREAT PAPYRUS IS MORE THEN CAPABLE OF SETTING UP HUMAN TRAPS ALONE AND ONCE I CAPTURE A HUMAN I SHALL BECOME CAPTIAN OF THE ROYAL GUARD AND UNDYNE WILL BE SO PROUD OF ME! NYEH HEHEH!" the tall skeleton turned around and left quickly

"Heya he's gone now you can come out now" I stepped out "so that's your brother?"I asked " yeah isn't he the coolest" I wanted to say I've seen better but I felt like I should play along "yeah totally" sans walked over to his hand and picked it up popping it back onto his arm with a loud pop then he looked at me "Heya he really tries hard to capture humans so if you could just play along with what he comes up with that'd be great" "but what if I don't" the white pupils in his sockets vanished as his smile remained locking eyes with me or sockets er I don't even know at this point "you don't want to find out the answer to that....." That absolutely terrified me "yeah yeah I'll play along totally going to go with whatever your brother comes up with" I smiled nervously and the whites came back to his sockets "good then we shouldn't have any problems then alright?" "A-alright" I spoke with a shaky breath "now imma go to my other job now seeya" he walked away in the direction papyrus went in

"Oh shhhh....." I thought to myself "I definitely do not want to get on sans bad side....." I said to myself thinking sans maybe small and more laid back then what papyrus seemed but I think he could easily kill me if I did something wrong in a heartbeat, I continued along the path they went down noticing sans slipper footprints only continued on for a few feet before vanishing "uh yeah..... Definitely don't wanna PO the chubby skeleton....." I continued on my way the snow crunching under my boots. I began to realize that it was snowing now, a gentle fall thats quite enjoyable but how was it snowing underground? Or was it holes above in the mountain. I looked up and saw nothing but black darkness for what seemed to go on for infinity and saw tiny little shines and glows "heh ceilin stars..... Reminds me of looking up at space during the night...."

After cautiously navigating the path petting an anthro dog that could only see moving things and tons of papyrus puzzles and sans puns later I had finally arrived at a little town after papyrus's last "trap" on the rope bridge failed I looked to see a small sign and it read "welcome to Snowdin" "huh Snowdin it's a nice fitting pun name that sans probably enjoys using when it snows alot down here" I walked through some of the town and saw other monsters children women and other things very different from each other yet they didn't seem scared of me and not the least bit intimidated I guess it's because of how peaceful I've been on the way here taking the slow steady road of not causing trouble. On the way along the path to Snowdin I'd been collecting these little coins I've been saving in a pouch sans said their called G was it gold? They were the color of it and they seemed plentiful all around the road so I decided to pick them up if they served use as a currency

I walked towards a store vendor and saw a tall bunny women about my height working the store "u-um excuse me miss?" The shopkeeper turned around and looked at me "oh my you sure are a big human aren't ya" she sounded gentle and at ease "y-yeah.... Been getting that alot..... Like the whole time I've been down here" the shopkeeper saw how worn out I was "hey hun how's about'cha head on over to the inn over there where my sister works and let her now I said you could stay as long as you want" I stood straight a bit shocked "r-really? You'd do that for a stranger like me?" She smiled "of course! And you look tired." She eyed me a bit. She wasn't wrong I was tired after meeting papyrus and then those dogs lots and lots of dogs but meeting papyrus was fun despite how tiring some of his puzzle got I just went along with what sans said to make him happy "yeah.... It's been a reaaally long day for me...." The shopkeeper pulled out a few snack bars and set them down in front of me. I pulled out the pouch and she raised a hand to stop me "no no no it's on the house" "your just too kind lady..." I gave a weak smile and I hadn't even realized how hungry I was! All this travel and walking is a real work on the energy burning.

I put the pouch away and took the snack bars putting all but one inside of my jacket pockets, I unwrapped one and ate it "mmmm monster made food is good" the shopkeeper chuckled "didn't your momma ever teach you not to talk while eating" I choked it down and swallowed "um I uh.... Uh...." I looked away unable to face the shopkeeper from her harmless question, she frowned realizing what I was implying "oh my..... I-im sorry I didn't now...." I looked at her briefly "i-its fine ma'am" she was frowning her ears pointing down a bit "you sure you don't need a hug?" A hug sounded like it would do a world of good for me since I missed toriel a bit "u-um sure" she stepped out from behind the register and gave me a soft hug, I hesitated but hugged back "now go on over to the inn and rest alright?" She let go and went back behind the register "i-i will t-thanks again!" I walked over into the inn and looked at the inkeeper she was a bit smaller then her sister but she looked up at me and greated me with a smile " would you like to stay the night?" "T-the shopkeeper said I could stay as long as I wanted too?" I asked questioningly, the innkeeper seemed to sense I was telling the truth "go right over to that room down the hall alright? There should be a freshly made bed waitin for you" "thanks" I walked down the hall and opened the door and looked around "huh nice and cozy" the room was small but the bed was just the right size for me. I slid my jacket off and set it aside "man wish I had my backpack it'd make carrying stuff so much easier" I took my boots off and sat at the edge of the bed laying down. Man an actual bed..... Seemed like forever since I left Toriels and the journey though had just begun was already super tiring, I closed my eyes and wondered if this was a dream and when I woke if I would be in my friends house in bed as if I had never left. I slowly drifted off to dream land resting up for the long journey ahead of me.
