Getting out of the friendzone (Chapter 5)

Getting out of the friendzone (Chapter 5) Don't be his kid sister or mother.
Don't be his kid sister. It's easy to fall into the kid sister role when you're friends with a guy. Sure, your guy friend may love his real little sister and may be very loyal and protective of her, but if he sees you as a sibling, then your romantic prospects will approach zero. You should avoid taking on the kid sister role at all times.
•        Make him see that you don't need to be protected all the time. Show him that you're not a wide-eyed clueless little girl who needs him to watch over you by being mature, responsible, and making good decisions. He can want to protect you enough to date you, of course, but not so much that he feels like you have no agency.
•        Don't let him burp, fart, or scratch himself around you. You are not a family member, and he shouldn't feel too comfortable in your presence.

Don't be his mother. This is yet another way that a girl can be stuck in the Friend Zone with a guy. He may come to see you as his mother, the girl who always knows best, looks out for him, and reprimands him when he's made a mistake. Sure, his mother is great for doing laundry and occasionally dispensing advice, but that's the last place where you want to be with someone you like -- unless you're Norman Bates' mother.
•        Don't act like you'll always take care of him. Don't watch over him when he drinks too much, offer to do his laundry, or warn him that he'll catch a cold if he goes out without a coat. You're his friend, not his parent.
•        Don't nag him for his behavior. No guy wants to date a nagging girl -- especially not if she reminds him of his mother.
