Punctuation (Part Two)

Punctuation goes inside quotation marks. Here are some examples:

"I love you", he said. Incorrect! The comma should have gone right after the 'u.'

"I love you," he said. Correct!

"I like the word 'ocelot'. It is so cool!" Incorrect! The first period should have gone inside the apostrophes.

"I like the word 'ocelot.' It is so cool!" Correct!

"Tag lines" are things like 'said,' 'yelled,' or 'asked.' Make sure your punctuation matches your tag lines! Examples:

"Are you okay." he asked. Incorrect! It should have been a question mark, because he asked.

"Are you okay?" he asked. Correct!

"I didn't even know where you were?" I shouted. Incorrect! Since they shouted, it should have been an exclamation point.

"I didn't even know where you were!" I shouted. Correct!

"That's... that's amazing!!!" I whispered, barely audible. Incorrect! If they whispered, it should have been a period or at least a decent ellipsis.

"That's... that's amazing..." I whispered, barely audible. Correct!

"That's... that's amazing." I whispered, barely audible. Correct!

"Who are you?" I asked. Correct!

"Hello!" I yelled. Correct!

"Hello." I shouted. Incorrect! They shouted, so it should have been an exclamation point instead of a period. The previous version is correct.
