Chapter 5: Magic
I woke up the next morning with guilt tight in my throat. I shouldn’t have left Vincent behind. I just hope he’s not mad at me. I tried to call Vincent, but I only got his voice mail. I walked down to the pizzeria in hope that Vincent would be there. I walked inside to find the night guards, Vincent not among them.“H-hey, Vicky,” Jeremy stared into my eye, “What’s with the face?”
“It’s nothing, Jeremy,” I replied, “Just tired.”
Just as I finished my sentence, Vincent walked in the door. No one spoke. Vincent’s eyes were black, the tiny white dots glowing softly. I stared right into his eyes, but he turned away from me. I couldn’t stand the silence.
“Vincent,” I started, “Can we talk? In the back office?”
“Fine,” Vincent’s voice was harsh. He walked towards the back room. I followed silently.
“What do you want.”
“I just wanted to say… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have talked the way I did to you and I-” I burst into tears-“I shouldn’t have left you behind.”
Vincent looked at me.
“I’ve always wondered what was under that eyepatch of yours.”
I stared at him and he stared back.
“Do you want to see?” I asked, tears still sliding down my face.
“I’d love to.”
I reached up to pull my eyepatch off my face. Underneath revealed a blood red eye with specks of glowing purple.
“It changes often, the colour of the specks. They were orange before I met you.”
“Can you see with that eye?”
“Yeah, but not very well. I keep it hidden, I keep it secret. You’re the only person besides me that has seen it.”
“But why hide it?”
“Because it’s magic. That’s why it’s glowing. It-it senses the ones I love the most. Right now that’s you.”
I put my hand on his shoulder. His expression changed. I put my eyepatch back on, walked to the door and turned around.
“You coming, or what?”
I opened the door as Scott was just walking down the hall.
“The kids are coming,” He said, when he saw me walk out the door.
