Part 3 -- The Talent Show

Tanya could not believe this was happening. Had she really somehow switched bodies with Lilac? And for pete’s sake, of all the lovely Mobians on Mobius, it had to be Lilac. She was an awesome friend, but had Tanya chosen who she were to switch with, Lilac would have been the last one she would have thought of. Tanya looked up and realized that Lilac, or whoever it was, had awoken, and was staring at her wide eyed, mouth gaping. “Um… Lilac?” Tanya asked whoever it was who was staring back at her. “Yes....” She answered, “Is this some sort of prank?”
“No I’m afraid not. We seem to have somehow switched bodies.” Tanya answered, a bit unsure of what she was saying. “It’s Tanya by the way.” “I could have guessed” Lilac said, smiling a little.“Wait….” Lilac said as her smile disappeared and was replaced by a horrified frown, “Isn’t the talent show today!?” Oh no! The talent show! Tanya remembered. It is today!

“Ok, how much time do we have before it starts?” Tanya asked hastily. Lilac looked down at her wrist, expecting to see her watch, which was built into her robotic hand. “Oh right…” she said as she remembered she no longer inhabited her own body. Tanya giggled a little and Lilac gave her an annoyed look. The sooner she was back in her own skin, the better. Tanya looked at the watch she now wore, and made a face.
“W-what’s wrong?” Lilac asked, recognizing Tanya’s look of disgust even though she was not in her own body. Tanya gave Lilac a nervous smile and said, “We have thirty minutes…” Thirty minutes!? “How in the wide wide world of Mobius are we going to fix this in thirty minutes!?” Lilac said horrified. “How am I ever going to win now!?”

“Lilac! That’s it! Someone, and I think I know who, must have used Tails’ switch-it machine on us so we would have no chance of winning!” Tanya said, excited. “Hey ya! That’s got to be it! But who would do that?” Lilac asked. “Lilac think about it! Who is always trying to beat you at everything?” Tanya questioned. Lilac gasped, “You!” she said surprised. “No! Besides me!” Tanya giggled. “Um… Ohhh! Rouge!” Lilac said, her voice raised. “Mmmhm,” Tanya nodded, “and we better get going if we are to get Tails to switch us back!”

Lilac knocked on Tails’ door, and Tails answered only seconds later. “Hey guys! I was just on my way to the talent show, join me?” He asked. Tanya looked at Lilac and said, “Um well you see...um we think someone used your switch-it machine on us.” “I woke up in Tanya’s room and well you can probably guess the rest.” Lilac finished. “Oh no.” Tails giggled, “You still have ten minutes before you have to be at the show. Come on in and I’ll switch you back.”

Tanya watched as Lilac and Silver’s performance on a big screen backstage, applause erupted from the crowd even before they were finished. Tanya cheered as they bowed and the other performers joined them on the stage. Tanya noticed Rouge’s angry and surprised expression as she stood beside Knuckles on stage as the main speaker announced the winners. In first was, of course, Silver and Lilac! Second, Rouge and Knuckles, and third was Tanya and Shade. Tanya was happy to see Rouge give Lilac a small smile.
Shade walked up behind Tanya and enveloped her in a tight bear hug. “You did a wonderful job Tanya.” He said in admiration. Tanya smiled, leaning back against him. “This was one weird day.” She said. “Why?” Shade asked. “Haha long story Shade, long story.”
