Chapter Three

"JULIANA!!!!! LETS GO! COME ON!!!"

Ron was yelling at me to go. This would be his first day at Hogwarts, as well as mine.

                                                             "I'M COMING!!  CALM YOURSELF!"

I threw on some jeans and a white shirt, brushed my long brown hair, and put on some black converse.

My bags were downstairs, as well as my owl, Charm. She was a tiny, but extremely fluffy black owl, with big dark brown eyes. I grabbed my white and black wand off the dresser, and raced down the stairs.

Mrs. Weasley was in the kitchen cooking french toast.

"Juliana! Come help yourself, dear. There's toast and eggs and bacon over on the counter. Better get some before the twins get up!"

Hungrily, I smiled and filled a plate with french toast and eggs, and plopped down next to Ron.

He was eating (Or inhaling?) eggs, without stopping to take a breath.

                    "First day!" I said.

He gave me half a chipmunk smile, and continued shoveling in food.

After about an hour, we were ready to leave.

Mrs. Weasley took us in a light blue, (Did I mention flying?) car to the train to Hogwarts. My mind was spinning. I couldn't believe what was happening.

We reached Platform 9 and 3/4, got a bucket load of hugs and kisses from Mrs. Weasley, and were about to go run through a brick wall, when a boy came up to us.

He was much taller than me, (Well, honestly, everyone is.)    And had messy, black hair and round black glasses.

"Um, excuse me? Do you know how to get to... platform 9 3/4?" He asked shyly.

After receiving directions from Molly, he ran through the wall with us, and we boarded the train.

After about fifteen minutes, we were settled in a compartment, the train just leaving the station.

"Do you know what it's going to be like?" I asked the boy.

"No, sorry. This is my first year." he replied.

I smiled. "I'm Juliana, Juliana Sylva." I shook his hand.

"Harry Potter." He said. Ron gasped. I didn't know what the issue was, but my first thought was that he forgot his rat at home.

"YOUR Harry Potter?" He asked, his eyes wide. "Do you have the.... ya know, the scar?"

"Ron! What the bloody...!" I was about to yell at him for being so rude. Who asks someone if they have a scar!  I didn't know who the boy was, but i guess he was someone important.

"No, it's fine." the boy said, and pushed up the hair on his forehead. Then I saw a light pink zig zag scar on his head, that almost looked like a lightning bolt.

"Whaat...." I started to say, but Ron cut me off, and rambled for about five minutes about who Harry was, and why he was important, and blah, blah, blah......

I was saved by a girl about my age, who was ALSO taller than me....

"Excuse me? Can I sit here? All the other compartments are full." She asked. She had poofy, light brown hair, and was wearing a light pink turtleneck sweater.

       "Sure!" I replied.

She looked relieved, and sat next to me.  "I'm Hermione Granger."

"Juliana Sylva. And this is Ron." I said, motioning to him.

     She looked at Harry.

"OH, um Harry Potter." He said, shaking her hand.

"Oh my gosh! Your Harry Potter?"

      He nodded.

"I've heard so much about you....... "

She kept speaking but i wasn't listening.

Even when the candy trollley came by, I didn't hear hardly anything. I was shaken out of the trance by someone saying my name.

   "Juliana?" It was Hermione.

"Will you grab that candy menu and tell me if there's any licorish wands?"

I was closest to the compartment door, so I grabbed a menu from the top.

"Um, no." I said, barely glancing over the sheet of paper.

"Excuse me miss?, But we actually do. How many would you like dear?" The old lady who ran the trolley handed Hermione a stick of licorish.

   Hermione gave me a look.

"I guess I didn't see it there..." I said, numbly.

The truth was that i couldn't read. Or write for that matter. Miss Edith never taught us or allowed us to go to school. That was definetly my biggest fear. Someone finding out, and then telling the whole school. I told myself that as soon as I got there, i would learn, and learn FAST.

A couple hours later, the train stopped. I glanced out the window and saw the most magnificent castle I had ever seen in my life. A huge lake stretched before the castle. I heard a booming voice.

"FIRST YEARS THIS WAY!!!!!! COME WITH ME!!" As I stepped off the train, i saw a man, the size of a small country. I was horrifyed, because i was only about four foot two. Yes. Don't judge me.

All the younger student were getting into small boats, which traveled by themselves across the lake. I hopped in one with Ron, Harry, and a small boy (yet STILL taller than me!) Who introduced himself as Dean Thomas.

We reached the other side and hopped out. An older woman greeted us.

"Hello students. I am Professor McGonagall. This way, all, please." she said curtly.

She led us threw the entire castle, which seemed to take hours. Finally, she stopped us at huge, bronze doors.

"In here is the Great Hall, where your meals will be served each day. This is also where you will be sorted tonight. "  She began talking about the importance of the house system, but I wasn't listening.

A white-haired boy had stepped in front of Harry.

"I'm Draco. Draco Malfoy." He said, his voice high and evil-sounding. I snorted at his ridiculous name.

His attention turned to me. "And Juliana, is it?" he asked, his eyebrows shooting up.

"THIS IS JULIANA SYLVA!" he said, too loudly.

                I was utterly confused.

"I- I don't..............." I started to say, but Professor McGonagall turned to Draco.

"If there is something you would like to say, why don't you tell all of us." she said. I smiled.

Suddenly, the huge doors swung open, and there was an eruption of cheering as we streamed through the doors.

We all arranged ourselves into a random pack, at the front of the massive hall.

The man I recognized as the man who drove me away from the orphanage stood up.

He welcomed us, and began to ramble, which i obviously blocked out.

Finally, he began to call us forward to get sorted.

             "AMELIA ANDERSON!"                    "HUFFLEPUFF!"

             "JAMES CAMERON!"                         "SLYTHERIN!"

              "ADDISON DARLING!"                      "RAVENCLAW!"

The crowd of first-years began to fade. The boy Draco was a Slytherin. Ha- go figure.

Hermione was a Gryffindor, Ron was a Gryffindor, and Harry was a Gryffindor. Suddenly I wanted to be a Gryffindor.

I was the last student. Of course.

"JULIANA SYLVA!!!!"           Dumbledore called out.    There was a sudden eruption of shouts and yells and whispers and gossip and murmuring and rustling and anything else.

"QUIET!!!!!!" Dumbledore yelled.     I walked up the steps, and sat on the small, wooden chair. Every eye in the room was on me as the hat was placed on my head.

" Ahhhhhh. Juliana Sylva!!! I didn't expect you to come here........ Now you are so difficult.. So very, very difficult. You father was a REMARKABLE Slytherin.................but your mother was quiet the Ravenclaw.... Now your sistteerrr Amelia Sylva? Am I right? AH. SHE was a Hufflepuff as well as your sister  Maddy and your brother Jackson........    But you are much different, aren't you? Ah, yes. Much braver.. for that matter. Very, Very brave, but also very sly and cunning. Shall it be Slytheriiinnn????"

"No, please, please, pleeaaassee." I whispered.

"No? Well than I know where to put you, yes I know exactly where to put you and that is GRYFFINDOR!!!!!!!"

The name rang out, and the Gryffindor table exploded. And so began my life. At Hogwarts.
