History: Peter
PETER'S POVI drum my hands on the table. Leo called us here for a meeting. We must talk about... everything.
Evelyn clears her throat. "I have something I need to share," she says. We all nod and let her talk.
"Well, the other day, when Ryia rescued that cat, it was really strange. She threw it down to someone watching-"
Margaret interrupts her. "That would be me," she says.
"Okay, I couldn't see you. Anyways, you passed it off to someone else, and that person walked over to the creek and dumped the poor kitten in…” She trails off as a frail old man walks in, wide eyed. “Did you say that a man dumped a cat in the river? By the waterfall, perhaps?” he says.
Evelyn nods. "It was really cruel. The poor cat-"
"Leo, can I talk to you?" the man asks. "Alone?"
Frowning, Leo gets up and walks with the old man into the hall. I hear muffled voices, but don't try to decipher what they're saying.
Evelyn blinks. She looks confused. So does Fred. "Who was that?" Fred asks, at the same time that Evelyn asks "What was that all about?"
I shrug. "That man was as much of a stranger to me as he was to you," I say. "We should probably leave him alone to talk with Leo. It looks like it might be important."
Margaret nods and leans back against her chair. "When are they going to finish talking?" she asks. Fred shrugs and picks at a splinter on the table. I sigh and rub my forehead.
Suddenly, Evelyn snaps her fingers. "I just remembered!" she exclaims. "There's something else I needed to tell you! Before I saw the man put the cat into the river, I- I found something... It was a trap door, under the water. It- it was locked, and from the look of it, it hasn't been opened in quite a while..."
I bite the inside of my cheek. Why would something like that be hidden?
The door bangs open. Leo enters the room, pale-faced and gripping something around his neck. He is silent. Margaret snorts. "I like your necklace!" she exclaims. Leo blushes and puts it in his bag.
I stand. “It’s getting late. We all need to get home. Especially me, I have strict curfew- I can’t wait until I’m not just a squire anymore.” I say. Everyone nods, and we all head home.
