History: Ryia

RYIA'S POV

I lean forward in my chair. The table creaks as I rest my chin on it. Evelyn is explaining what happened to her the other day.
“Well, the other day, when Ryia rescued that cat, it was really strange. She threw it down to someone watching-“
Margaret butts in. "That would be me." she interrupts.
“OK, I couldn’t see you. Anyways, you passed it off to someone else, and that person walked over to the creek and dumped the poor kitten in…” Evelyn trails off as the door bangs open. A man - I recognize him as Hadrian, the scribe - walks in. His face is as pale as flour.
"Did you say that a man dumped a cat in the river?" he asks. "By the waterfall, perhaps?"
Evelyn nods, slowly. Her eyebrows are creased. "It was very cruel. The poor cat-"
Hadrian's eyes widen and he clears his throat. "Leo, can I talk to you? Alone?"
Leo looks confused as he stands up and follows Hadrian out into the hall. I hear their muted voices.
Fred exclaims, "Who was that?" at the same time Evelyn asks "What was that all about?"
Peter shrugs. "That man was as much of a stranger to me as he was to you," he says. "We should probably leave him alone to talk with Leo. It looks like it might be important."
Margaret nods and leans back. "When are they going to finish talking?" she asks. Fred shrugs and scratches at something on the table. Peter sighs and rubs his forehead.
I notice a strange look on Evelyn's face. Suddenly, she snaps her fingers and exclaims, "I just remembered something! There's something else I needed to tell you! Before I saw the man put the cat into the river, I- I found something... It was a trap door, under the water. It- it was locked, and from the look of it, it hasn't been opened in quite a while..."
I'm about to reply when the the door opens and Leo strides in. He looks as if he's just seen a ghost. He is wearing a necklace, with a charm of some sort tied on.
Margaret scoffs. "I like your necklace," she says, giggling. Blushing, Leo takes it off and puts it in his bag.
Peter stands and brushes off his hands. “It’s getting late. We all need to get home. Especially me, I have strict curfew- I can’t wait until I’m not just a squire anymore.”
We all nod in response, and follow him out the door.
