Chapter Good Girls

A week later, it's my twin sister Libby who listens as I tell her the latest story about Nathan. She nods as I speak, occasionally saying something. She looks concerned as I start to cry.
"I-I'm sorry," she interrupts at one point. "But I feel like Luke would be a better person for you to talk to. Do you want me to ask him to come over?" I'm about to say no, but then I realise that Luke is the person I want to talk to most right now. I nod silently, tears rushing down my face. Libby smiles sadly, and exits the room.

Luke bursts into my room about ten minutes later. He sits down next to me. "You arrived quickly," I say quietly. Luke smiles slightly. "When I heard that my best friend wanted to talk to me, I came as fast as I could." "Thanks, Luke." I mumble. "No problem," he tells me. "One less, one less problem," I sing softly. Luke laughs. "So, what did you want to tell me?" he asks gently. And I tell him everything.

As I'm talking, it hits me that I'm so, so lucky to have Luke. He's the best friend I could have. He's there for me, no matter what. I don't think there's anyone in the world who is a better friend than Luke.

Unfortunately, Luke has to leave. I wish he could stay with me forever, comforting me as I tell him how Nathan is breaking my heart. And tonight, when the pain is demanding to be felt and I feel like I couldn't feel any worse, I realise what an awful person I am when I wish that it is Luke that is whispering to me in the darkness, not Libby. I must be a horrible sister, because I want to trade my twin, who I've spent all of my life with, for my best friend.
