Chapter Don't Stop

"You should break up with him," my best friend Dawn advises me. I shake my head. "I-I can't," I tell her. "Well, at least TALK to him!" "Dawn..." I sigh. "Really, Lauren," she says. "If you don't, I will." "You wouldn't!" I say, shocked. "Luke would, anyway," she smirks. I roll my eyes. Dawn has this crazy idea that Luke has a crush on me. She has no idea what she's talking about. She doesn't know Luke like I do.
"Luke doesn't like me, Dawn!" I protest. "That's what you think!" she laughs. "And it's the truth," I mutter.
Dawn stops walking suddenly. "What is it?" I ask. "Up ahead!" she whispers. "It looks like Nathan and Luke are arguing about something!" My boyfriend and my best friend? Luke better not be getting involved...

"You have to treat her better!" Luke shouts. "Like I'm going to to listen to YOU," Nathan snorts. "You know nothing!" Luke is about to reply, but I step in. "What's going on?" I ask. "I was just trying to tell Nathan that -" Luke starts, but Nathan interrupts. "Nothing's going on, Lauren," he says. "We were just talking." I seriously doubt that, but I'm too relieved that Nathan is talking to me to protest. I knew everything was going to be fine. I glance at Dawn, and she grins at me.
"Alright then," I smile. "Well, Luke, it's all okay now!" I tell Luke. Luke opens his mouth to say something, but then he just nods. "See you, Lauren," he says quickly, before walking off. "Let's go," Nathan says, and we walk off too.

I should be ecstatic that our relationship is fine, and I am, but something seems out of place. Why would Nathan just suddenly talk to me again? Why did he lie about what he was talking about with Luke?
