The License Exam
For the past few days, we as a class have been practicing our ultimate moves for the upcoming Hero License exam. I’ve got mine down pat but I haven’t asked (Y/N) or really anyone about theirs. I hear Bakugo testing one of his new moves and I look over to see him use his AP shot on a rock wall.I don’t think much of this until I see a large section of the rock falls towards All Might. I would’ve acted but (Y/N) already did. I can’t even blink before the rock stops right above the teacher. He stares at it, taking a breath before (Y/N) approaches and feeds the (F/C) energy into a large crack in the rock. Suddenly, it shatters into thousands of tiny pieces. The class freezes as the dust dissipates to reveal her.
“Thank you, Genkina.” All Might says, patting her shoulder.
She rolls her eyes, “No need to thank me. From now on, you’re under our protection. You protected us and now we can do the same. This is just a little payback for the AFO fight. You did save me after all.”
‘She’s getting better.’
But eventually, the day of the license exam is here. Our class stares at the intimidating building, debating whether or not to continue on being a hero. (Y/N) just smiles, I can tell that she’s proud of herself for making it this far. She’s been working hard and is finally accepted by society.
I’m proud.
We head inside and have the lead of the Hero License exam talk to us about the stages and rules. When he’s done, we head to the stadium. Class 1-A begins together, like other schools. We stand in a large circle as Bakugo runs off with Kaminari and Kirishima trailing slowly behind. It’s probably best for me to be alone as well. Our class will surely be targeted because the entire world knows our quirks, thanks to the sports festival. As I attempt to walk away, (Y/N) quickly approaches and decides to follow me. We leave the rest of the class behind as the exam officially begins. We rush around, dodging other students until we approach an abandoned city. Seconds after entering, a group of four students drop down from the top of a ladder.
“Look who it is,” One of the teen boys says, “Todoroki Shoto and the UA traitor.”
I can feel my blood start to boil. We turn to face them, being sure to block our targets as well.
“And you four are..?”
“Doesn’t matter, we’re here to pass.”
One of them uses their quirk to try and box us in. A wall of stone appears, blocking our vision and preventing us from counter-attacking. I grab (Y/N) by the arm, pulling her into a pipe.
The other students split up, searching for us. (Y/N) and I sneak around the area until we come across a lone student from the group. Instead of throwing one of our balls at them and hope to hit a target, (Y/N) holds them in place with her energy and floats over all of the balls, hitting their targets and kicking them out of the exam. We use this technique for two other students and attempt it on the last.
But the last has realized what we’ve been doing. His quirk seems to be...tentacles? No, that’s not it. These aren’t tentacles, they’re..tails. He has four of them, they’re all red with orange-like veins throughout. The student whacks our balls away, so (Y/N) quickly brings them back. His ear seems to flick towards our direction.
“I know you’re there,” He says calmly, “Come on out.”
The ‘tails’ on his back curl towards us, almost like an animal trying to appear larger. (Y/N) and I listen to his request, stepping out from the shadows.
“So it was you two this entire time?” He says.
(Y/N) chuckles, “Well, why does it matter?”
The student rolls his eyes and we watch as the four tails attached to his back begin to morph with each other to create a larger tail. He grunts, seemingly in pain.
“You’re Endeavor’s son and then you’re...the UA traitor?” He laughs, “I still can’t believe they let a villain in here.”
This immediately ticks me off.
“She’s meant to be here, just like the rest of us! She’s not a villain!”
(Y/N) pats my shoulder, stepping closer to the fellow student. She begins emitting her (F/C) energy. The glow from it makes her eyes seem brighter and they seem to make her even more intimidating than when we first met.
“That’s a bold statement for someone like you.” She responds.
The student pauses, letting his guard down, “What do you mean ‘someone’ like me?”
Knowing he’s let his guard down, (Y/N) throws our balls into the air, keeping one to herself. The student watches the balls for a good few seconds with confusion. My classmate rushes forward with the extra ball in her dominant hand. She grabs our opponent by the giant ‘tail’ and throws him to the ground. He grunts as she restrains his entire body with her kinetic energy and uses her ball to finally get him out.
We were done.
She used the weapons I was given to get the first two students out, so it was only her left to finish. We high-five as she lets the student go and we head to the Anteroom. They announce the second part of the Hero License exam and we’re given 10 minutes to strategize and recuperate. Our next part of the exam basically just handles the first aid and rescue part of being a hero.
After we entered, (Y/N) disappeared from my line of vision. So I search around the room for her. I eventually find her passed out on an empty seat. I lay her head on my legs, allowing her to rest up and prepare for the next part of the test. She stirs in her sleep but doesn’t mutter. I guess she only does when she has something to hide.
Soon enough, a loud alarm rings out, waking up (Y/N) in the process.
“The second half of the exam will begin now!”
We head outside, preparing together as a class. Eventually, we split into different groups. (Y/N) and I end up with Asui and Hagakure. We hang out by a river nearby, diligently looking for bystanders. I now notice how (Y/N)’s brain works during serious situations as well.
She’s calm, observant and very cautious.
We hear the screams of a small child nearby. Of course, (Y/N) heads over first. It looks like this little boy’s right leg is trapped underneath some rubble.
(Y/N) smiles, “Try not to move okay? I don’t want the rubble to hurt you any more than it already has.”
The child listens.
“Is there anyone else you think could be trapped nearby?”
He shakes his head no, so (Y/N) begins.
“You three go find other bystanders, I’m fine with this little guy.” She says, but I pause as we walk away to get a good look at how she handles him.
She uses her energy to lift and hold all of the rubble in place, then lightly pulls out the little boy. She lets the rubble fall back into place and checks over the boy for wounds.
“I’m going to push a little bit on your leg. Tell me where it hurts.”
She does so, but the boy only cringes. She grins.
“Looks like you’ve only got a bruise. Can you try standing or at least putting pressure on it?”
So the boy does and he can stand okay. (Y/N) still holds him and floats both of them over to the first aid station. Later, we find her again.
We help many civilians as a group until a loud explosion startles us. At first, I assume it may have been Bakugo, but I soon notice the rubble spitting out from the attack, certainly from a villain.
“I’m going to fight.” (Y/N) immediately says.
“You’re not going alone.” I reply.
We both approach the fight. Shindo from Miss. Joke’s class attempts to stop Gang Orca and his ‘villain’ crew from attacking the civilians at the first aid station. I glance over at (Y/N), but she’s gone. I glance back at the fight between Shindo and Gang Orca, but now (Y/N) is in the middle of it.
I can see her shield of energy protecting the entire first aid station, not just her and Shindo. She must be able to spread her energy over vast areas ever since the Kamino incident. Maybe she was practicing ever since then.
Gang Orca and his crew pause, taking a moment to test their attacks on the bubble of (F/C) energy. (Y/N) doesn’t budge. I sneak into the area, the shield opens a small door so I’m able to enter. The rest of the students continue moving the injured from the first aid as Shindo and (Y/N) distract the villains. I sneak around nearby, watching.
“Only two people on the frontlines?” The hero says, “It seems you’ve underestimated us, heroes.”
(Y/N) chuckles, “And it looks like you villains were too distracted to notice that.”

She points up, where a large boulder hovers above the group of villains. Gang Orca also hasn’t realized that (Y/N) dropped the shield around her and Shindo.
“What are you going to do?”
“This.” She replies simply.
Suddenly, Gang Orca and his entire crew are thrown high in the air inside of a box created by (Y/N)’s energy. Shindo breaks up the ground as the group of villains are dropped from (Y/N)’s grasp. I wait until they’ve all landed on the ground and quickly freeze over the area, locking them inside.
(Y/N) smiles at me, floating in the air across the wreckage in search of the final two bystanders. Eventually, she flies back over holding two children and it is announced that the exercise is over. Despite this, (Y/N) still decides to check over the two children for injuries or other issues.
‘She’s amazing.’ I smile.
Soon enough, we’re all standing together in front of a tall billboard. After some explanation, the names of those who passed are displayed on said billboard. I search for (Y/N)’s first, even though I know she passed. But I-I can’t find myself. I...failed?
“Sho..”
I instinctually turn to the sound of (Y/N)’s voice, she looks concerned and..sympathetic. Her (E/C) eyes almost look like they’re clouded with many different emotions. She doesn’t know how to feel either.
“I’m so sorry Shoto-kun,” She says, “It uh..it may be my fault.”
Huh, her fault?
“What are you talking about?” I question as everyone’s evaluations are passed around.
Slowly, Shindo and other students who were in awe of (Y/N)’s power turn towards her with an angry glare.
“I-I was too much,” She mutters, I went overboard and since everyone was focused on me, they got minus points for just standing around.”
Shindo is the first to approach.
“It’s your fault my score is so low!”
She looks away, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to affect your scores. I was just thinking in the mindset of a hero.”
He rolls his eyes, “What kind of hero would not allow any others to help them out?”
I growl, “Do you even hear yourself right now?”
He flinches at my venomous words but I continue.
“If this was a real situation, other real heroes wouldn’t care about the spotlight and they’d only work together to make sure the civilians were safe, nothing else!” I take a step closer, “If you’re trying to become a her, this kind of behavior is not going to be tolerated!”
Shindo scoffs and I realize how much attention I’ve called upon myself. All eyes are on me. But eventually, the other students look away.
(Y/N) chuckles, patting my back as we follow the rest of our class back onto the bus to UA. And that puts an end to our exams.
