Chapter 7 - The promise

                After a few minutes of running I reach a clearing in the woods and i sit down and look up at the stars. I feel tears leave my eyes and I close them and look down and then I hear growls from all around me. I open my eyes and look around me and I see three wolves from another pack and I hear one say "Look what we have here. A little Foxy all alone.". "He'll be a fine midnight snack." another said and a that moment they attacked and I run and try to avoid their jaws until I get bit in my back by one of them and I yip and whimper in pain.

                The wolf throws me to a rock and I yip. The wolf got closer and growled and and just before he went for the kill my mother zoomed in and tackled the wolf away from me and she stood over me and growled. "Touch my son and I'll kill you all." my mother said. "if you care for a fox so much then you will die with him." the wolf said as the other two fled. My mother charged at the wolf and they scratched and bit each other for almost half an hour. When they finally stopped my mother stood over me and her fur was covered in blood.

                I stay under my mother and I watch the other wolf stare her down then he smirks for some reason then he runs off then my mother falls to her side and I rush over to her and nudge her. She moves a little and says "Kesh, promise me you'll stay strong, even when you're weak. Promise me when things get hard, you'll keep your head high and keep walking. Promise me you'll protect those you care about most. Promise me you'll never forget.". Tears fell from my eyes and I nodded and said "I promise.". My mother gave one last smile then she closed her eyes and took her eternal breath. I cried and curled up beside her and cried. That was the coldest night of my life.
