Step 7
Set up a meeting with your parents so you can present your findings. Plan what you want to say in advance. Do not make extreme claims that your cell phone use will comply exactly with what your parents want, forever and ever.Avoid being overly reactive to their specific complaints in your presentation. Instead, describe your findings: Show your parents that your future actions will be guided by what you have learned, not by the desire to simply stay out of trouble with them.
Tell them you will be making better choices based on your new-found, full understanding of the situation. Consider presenting your findings in a letter. Some parents will regard this as a sign you are serious.
If you present your findings in a face-to-face meeting, make sure you convey a serious tone.
Be a clever advocate for yourself. For example, play the safety card in your favor! Point out to your parents that you need your cell phone so you can contact them if you are ever in serious trouble.
