Mack's Rants - Issue 5: Social Media
I'm going to start out by saying that I think the concept of social media is great, I just think people misuse it and don't follow the original intent. This topic, I feel, could be a bit controversial considering the way some people view social media. The point of this "rant" isn't really to rant just as much as go over this topic. I don't really know why I felt the need to make this. I guess it could be to "spread" awareness but I think the whole "spreading awareness" for your own opinion is just bull. I just felt like talking about it I guess.
So there are many things I just want to touch base on, and I'm hoping you guys can see my perspective and try and realize what I'm talking about. There are a few things I'm going to talk about, so I'm basically going to try to keep this organized by labeling the main topic and than going into detail about it. Let's begin, folks!
Being "fake":
This topic can be perceived in different ways. In some people's definition, being fake is wearing what they say is too much makeup, or being "vain" and narcissistic. I would describe, in my own words, being fake on social media as lying, but not huge lies, more like white lies (cue Miranda Lambert sing White Liar. *producer: We don't have the budget for that. me: Oh, oh, this is awkward...*)
I think that wearing makeup has nothing to do if you are being "fake." I would consider someone to be fake if they're completely changing their personalities and are lying about things. For example, if you were saying that you had some mansion but you really had a little apartment and you're putting it on social media, than I would consider that to be "fake." Do you guys see what I'm saying. If not, I'm sorry but I don't really know how to explain it.
Vanity:
I don't think that the amount of pictures you post on social media determines if you are vain or not. I would say that you constantly talking about you, yourself, and oh, I don't know, YOU, than YES, I consider that vanity. If you always talk about how gorgeous you are, than yes, that would be vanity, to me.
Hate:
This topic is the only one that gets me completely furious. I think that hate is just a way for the "haters" to try and make themselves feel better by putting you down. Honestly guys, someone's opinions of you doesn't matter. In the long run, most of these people are people you don't even know and at the end of the day, your life isn't truly affected by their opinions AT ALL. The only way that someone's opinions affect you is if you LET them affect you. I've been called some pretty awful words, over the Internet and in person, but they don't affect my self worth or anything unless I let them.
Attention:
This is something I see a lot of, and don't lie, everyone does it. Sometimes we feel like we need some attention, so we do something over the Internet to get it. There are SOOOO many things you could do over the Internet to get attention. For example, and this is a tricky topic, self harm. It is a serious thing, but there is a point where it stops being a mental illness and where it starts being an attention seeking thing. (I'll write a "rant" on that soon, but no hate about it please. I will try to be sympathetic.)
I know there is a lot more, but those are the only things I felt like talking about, and if I wrote all the things I felt about social media, this chapter would go on forever. I also know that Qfeast is a form of social media, and I have seen some of those things on here, believe it or not. I'm not going into detail about it, for some reasons, but yeah.
Okay, love you guys. ^.^
xx Mack
