The Fates
I hung from one hand over the boiling pit of Tartarus, holding onto Annabeth with the other. It's been a while since I feared for my life. I knew if I moved, my ledge would crumble and fall, and I'd take down Annabeth with me. That wasn't an option."I need you to trust me." I said to Annabeth over the bubbling sound of shouts and magma, "on the count of three, I'm going to swing you out of the pit, so I need you to push with one hand and let go of me when you're over the side."
"I'm not letting go of you, Seaweed Brain. I won't let you fall." She protested.
"But at least you won't. Do this for me, Annabeth. Let me be your hero, so you can live on for me." I begged. Annabeth took a deep breath, so I took it as agreement.
"One." I counted down, "Two, Three!" I swung her over me with all my strength and she pushed up, landing at the top of the hole and pulling herself to the top.
My ledge cracked and I tumbled towards the pit. As I fell, I knew what I wanted my last words to me, so I shouted up at my one true love,
"Wise Girl!" And all I saw was my Wise Girl's face staring down at me with an expression of complete and utter love and mourning, and my heart shattered to pieces right before I did...
So the sharpened edges will not be round,
And the truths that were hidden were not found.
For we did not choose the fate of our friend,
And it did not have a happy end.
