Tataro's Plan
I sat in our small hut in the forest, waiting for Tataro to come home. I counted the seconds on my fingers, first going past five minutes, then ten, then twenty. It was long after he would normally come home, and I was worried. He had told me his plan this morning, and I feared he had gotten caught.
-FLASHBACK TO MORNING-
Tataro woke up, stretching his arms over his head.
"Good morning. Did you sleep well?" I asked, peeling the skin off of a potato I had found in the forest just yesterday. It had been a lucky find. He watched me peel for a minute, his gaze growing thoughtful.
"Oniisan?" He snapped out of it and gave me a smile.
"Yes, I'm fine, Asami. I slept perfectly." He paused for a minute before getting up. "Hey, Asami? I have a plan that you may not like." I tilted my head and gave him a curious look.
He sighed, and ran his hand through his thick white hair. "I'm thinking of tring to steal some supplies from the general. He'll never miss a bag of goods or two. He has too much anyway."
My eyes widened and I cowered. I felt myself start to tremble. Tataro noticed and put a worried hand on my shoulder. "What's wrong?"
I felt tears pick my eyes, and I hugged Tataro tightly. "But what if they catch you, Oniisan? I can't lose you, too! Please, just forget about this. I promise to get more food! I promise..." Tears started to stream down my face, and he patted my back soothingly.
"Shhhh...I'll come bask before sunset, okay? That way you don't have to worry." I sniffed and looked up at him.
"Okay..."
