My (Crazy) Mother Alice

"Mum?" I called out tentatively.

A woman with waist-length blond hair turned to me.

"Giselle?" she cried happily, "Oh Giselle!"

"Good afternoon, Alice." Aunt Claire said with a tiny nod.

But my mom had eyes only for me.

We were out in the asylum garden, my mom's favourite place to be.

Just then, a butterfly landed on the table.

"Well, hello there!" Alice said to the butterfly, "How do you do?"

Aunt Claire rolled her eyes.

But she didn't know that I could hear the conversation perfectly.

"I'll let you have a-um-private chat with your mother." Aunt Claire said, walking out the door.

Then I was alone with my mom.

"You understand them, don't you?" my mother asked.

I was surprised.

"No, not-but-yes," I stuttered,

I looked down, ashamed. Well, now I know for sure that I'm insane!

"Let me see your scar," Alice demanded.

I pushed up the sleeve of my right arm.

"It's all his fault," my mom muttered.

His fault?

"Come back here!" I yelled, chasing a beautiful butterfly.

I laughed as the butterfly teased me, doing flips and zipping up and down.

"Get away from my daughter!"

I turned around.

My mom was running towards us, screaming hysterically while brandishing a knife. She waved it threateningly in the air.

I was frightened. What was she going to do?

Alice ran towards the butterfly. I gasped, at last realizing what she was going to do.

"No!" I put my hand in front of the butterfly, my friend. The blade struck my arm. I dropped my right arm, looking at it. I was completely dumbfounded. Then the pain came.

"Daddy!" I wailed, clutching my arm.

I glanced at it. The blood was really started to come now. I was terrified.
