Talking Plants

"I'm losing my mind," I muttered to myself.

"No you aren't!" the plants replied.

"Yes I am!" I half-screamed, "Who ever heard of talking flowers?!"

"Excuse me miss, but not all of us are flowers," a sapling huffed.

"Whatever!"

Okay, I needed a minute to register all of these absurd things that had happened today. My hands were glowing, somehow I mad Zoe's arm covered with cuts and bruises, and now I'm talking to plants, yet they're talking straight back!

"Wow, nothing unusual has happened today!" I said sarcastically, throwing my hands up in the air.

"I know!" a daisy squealed.

"That was sarcasm," I snorted.

"Oh," the daisy seemed disappointed.

Why me? WHY ME?

And then I remembered: My family is mental.

"Oh no!" I screamed, "No, no, no, no, NO!"

"Stop yelling like that, someone is going to think that something is wrong," a rose scolded.

"EVERYTHING IS WRONG!" I couldn't hold it in anymore, "DON'T YOU SEE? I'M GOING CRAZY!"

There was silence.

"Dearie, you know that's not true," a leaf said gently.

"It IS true, it's more real than ever!" I whimpered, "All my life, I had to suffer, growing up with no parents and only living with a single aunt, knowing that my parents were dead because they were both mental. It-it's horrible."

"Aw, you-"

"GISELLE? ARE YOU IN THE BACKYARD AGAIN?"

Aunt Claire.

"Uh, yes, but I was just about to come in!" I called back.

I raced into the house and dropped my backpack near the front door.

"I'm here!" I grinned.

Aunt Claire did not smile in return.

"What-what's wrong?" I asked, my smile faltering.

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes.

"Today's the day," she said gravely.
