No song really applies to this chapter, that I can think of at least
I sat on the train watching the trees fly past, Bram Stoker's Dracula sat open on my lap. I wish I was on this train for better reasons. I felt sorry for Joel and Benji, they were from an extremely close family. The train pulled up to the station and I stepped out into the cool evening air. I'd began packing my bags as soon as Benji had asked if I wanted to come up to the bush and stay with them and I'd been out the door barely half an hour later. I hoped like hell that I hadn't left anything behind.
I pulled out my phone and dialed Josh's home phone, Tyler picked up, which made me strangely happy. "Hey Tyler, It's Nathan."
"Hey, Nathan! What's up?"
"Nothing much...I'm in Barsagra"
A small pause. "Oh...why?" Tyler was noticeably disappointed about this.
"It's Joel and Benji's gran, she's quite sick, she wanted me to come up and stay with the three of them, I might not be home for a fair while."
A slightly longer pause. "That's horrible...I hope she get's better."
Tyler's P.O.V:
I don't know why but I felt...Jealous, I knew it was selfish of me to feel how I did but I couldn't help it. I'd met this wonderful person and the world had chucked him onto a train into the middle of nowhere! I sighed and walked back to the living room where Josh was busy fixing up some stuff from work, he looked up at me expectantly "What did Nathe say? You look upset."
I shrugged, trying to look as if I didn't care as much as I did "His friend's grandma is sick, he's going up there for a bit."
"That sucks. I hope she's alright"
"Yea."
"Do you know when he'll be back? Brendon will need to know."
"Oh, he said he doesn't know but it will probably be a fair while." Josh looked very concerned by this.
"He needs to keep in touch with Brendon...he'll be around people all the time, yeah?"
I nodded in response "He's staying with Joel and Benji at their grandparents' house." The concern on Josh's face dimmed a bit. "The only thing is that he has no phone reception, the four of them are completely cut off, it's an hours drive to the nearest town." The concern was back.
Nathan's P.O.V:
I felt a bit bad about Tyler and Josh, I was also a bit worried about not going to the therapist. We'd spoken about nothing important for a good twenty minutes before the reception started to drop out. I wanted to savor my time talking to him, who knew how long I'd be here.
I waited out the front of the train station for Joel to come and pick me up, Benji was staying with Joyce to make sure she was okay. "Honk honk!" Benji's voice called out from his Grandma's old Camry. I stood up smiling. "Hey Benji." I said as I got into the car.
"What've you been up to?" he asked as we drove down the highway. Bushland surrounding us. "Not much. I did go to a concert with this guy I met at my counselors and his friend." Benji raised his eyebrows at this. "A new friend? You're not trying to replace me and Joel are you?" We both laughed. "Nah, he's pretty cool though, he's the receptionist. Tyler's cool as well, he's the same age as me and he hates bananas, like me..."
I drifted off a bit at that point, thinking about Tyler as I looked out the window. Eventually, Benji's voice awoke me from my daydreams. "You seem to like this Tyler dude a lot." I shrugged "He's pretty cool." I said, brushing it off. Benji grinned "You like him, don't you?" I panicked a bit "No! Well like yea. But. No. As a friend...you know?" Benji chuckled "I know, as a very attractive friend that you wanna date."
