And so, I angled downward to look for somewhere to rest for the night.
Below me was the great forest of Shin tuiga, having been named after the demons to mean "Hells Garden". It was a rough translation, for the humans changed its name ever so slightly, but it was still accurate as ever.
For the trees in this particular forest were large, the largest in the world in fact. The trunks were so thick that if you cut a hole in the middle you can pass an entire semi truck through without a problem. The tops were the height of some small mountains. It was illegal to poach or cut down any trees in the forest, not like anyone would wish to, for the creatures within it were dangerous to be told. Monsters and magical hybrid creatures all. I had hoped I could simply fly over it without a problem, but it was bigger then I imagined, and so unfortunately I was forced to camp within it.
But not like a idiot.
If I slept on the ground, I would be eaten alive. And so I picked a large tree and flew to it, landing on the top. I climbed my way down, careful not to fall.
The leaves and branches at the top of the trees were so thick and large it was impossible to fly directly in.... Or out.
I prayed I would not be forced to fly out.
I laid down on a thick branch, which was bigger then me, and looked up at the stars peeking through the leaves. The scales on the bark were sharp, and looked as if they were in the shape of dragons scales. But I was so tired I didn't care what I slept on, as long as I slept.
I yawned, then drifted off to sleep.
The first thing I noticed was movement. I swayed, back and forth, ever so slightly. I assumed there was a wind and the branch was moving. I tried to ignore it.
Then I felt something rub against my left hand. It felt smooth, and sort of bumpy. I was so tired that my alarm didn't come through, but I could tell something wasn't right.
I opened my eyes.
I was face to face with the largest snake I had ever seen, its scales a mottled green that blended it into the shadows and sun alike. Its eyes were large, and a very sinister black colour. Its pupil was a white slit down the center of its eye.
It opened its mouth, and hissed at me. Its fangs were big, bigger then my arm, and pure white. it was curved in such a way it appeared like a crescent moon.
I scrambled to my feet, stumbling slightly. I looked down to see the body of the snake halfway around me. I tried to jump out of its grip, but before I could, it Squeezed. My legs stuck in its deadly embrace, I flailed my arms around trying not to lose balance. I brought out my sword as I did, facing the snake.
I stared into its large, dark, eyes. It made me feel nauseous, and distracted, so I was forced to look down. Directly at its large teeth. One bite and I can get pierced through and filled with venom in an instant.
It snaked its head back. Before it could strike me, I slashed at its body. All my futile attack did was make a small rent in its thick hide. Fear coursed through me as I realised it would be next to impossible to defeat this thing on the ground. I had to escape, get to the air.
It lunged its head forward with surprising speed, and reflexively I sliced. It wailed, rearing back its head an spraying venom. I glanced up in time to see I cut off the end of one of their fangs before the venom hit me.
I cried out, the venom burning through my clothes and flesh as if it were nothing. I stumbled backwards and fell, freefalling towards the ground almost 400 feet below me.
My back struck a large branch, and I heard a crack. I hit branch after branch, getting covered in bruises and small scratches. Finally I hit the ground.
I gasped, feeling my entire body shriek in agony. The venom seemed to bore its way into me, making the slow agonising pain even worse. I lay there, stunned and shocked, as I felt my body give up. Whatever the venom was, it made me feel paralyzed.
Then a shadow passed over head. I looked up weakly. Instead of the monstrous face of a predator, I saw the soft slightly green face of a girl.
"Hey, are you ok? Can you hear me?"
"Who...?"
"Wow.. You look terrible. Just rest now, I'll-"
Before she could finish that sentence, I passed out.
