Chapter 29- Nico
I growled and opened my eyes. Why was I still having these dreams??I shook my head trying to dispel them, but to no avail.
Tired and frustrated, I drifted back to sleep...
My name was all over the world now. I constantly ran, occasionally hiding out in small towns before my presence was discovered and I had to keep running. I couldn't find anywhere to stay, and even if I could, why would I? It'll only make it easier for them to find me.
And so, I was on the run.
Many bounty hunters went after me. I either killed them, or hurt them badly enough they couldn't hunt anyone else ever again. In fact, just a week ago, I was forced to kill a small group. They were a group of 3, which seemed odd to me. Usually bounty hunters travelled in groups of 4 or more, but who was I to judge?
I leaned against a wall in a alleyway, eating a piece of bread while I took a quick break. All seemed quiet.... Too quiet.
The birds were silent.
The wind was gone.
My paranoia took over, and I paused in my chewing to listen to anything that might betray the presence of someone else.
At first there was nothing.
Then suddenly someone came from above, trying to stab downwards. I rolled out of the way and swept my scythe around, putting the dull side of the blade under their chin. Then I moved up the handle, and pinned them against a wall. They struggled, but they dare not move whilst their neck was pinned. It could break.
They wore a hood to cover their face. With my free hand, I removed it.
A boy, no older then I, stood there. His brown hair messy and shiny. His eyes were a unique colour, orange to be exact, and his skin was pale in the moonlight.
"Who are you?" I asked.
He stopped moving, then got a good look at me. He blushed.
"I...I'm Nico."
"I don't recognise you. Are you a bounty hunter?"
"Y-yes.. But no. You see my group got killed and I-I wanted to get revenge, but, well, I'm sort of new to this."
I smiled a little. I didn't expect them to be so shy. Most people are scared of me.
"Well, that's ok I guess. But if your new don't go for the tough ones, eh?"
I took my scythe from him. He rubbed his neck, looking at me in amazement.
"Your not going to kill me?"
"Nope. Your kinda cute."
He blushed more and looked away.
When he didn't do anything else I started walking away.
"Wait!" I stopped and turned to look at him.
"What?"
"Can I go with you?"
"Now why would you do that?"
"Because.. Well.. I don't really have anywhere to go to. And you seem nice."
"I'm a criminal."
"A nice criminal."
"I killed people."
"So have I."
I sighed, thinking. Finally I shrugged.
"Come along then. If you betray me-"
"I won't." He smiled.
And like that, A beautiful bond was formed.
