Chapter 24- Chefs To Be

I saw Nightmare sitting at the table, a bottle of opened liquor nearby. The strength of it was impressive. That sort of stuff could make you go blind.
As I watched he picked up the bottle and took another drink from it. It was two thirds empty, so I'm not sure how much he drank but it looked like a lot.
"Uh good morning."
He didn't flinch or turn to face me.
"Whatever."
"Are you...ok?"
"I'm what I'll always be. Now what do you want?"
He didn't sound intoxicated, but then again, it was hard to tell with this guy.
"I just came to get some breakfast."
"Then get some breakfast. I'm going to go sleep or something."
He picked up the bottle, then walked past me. I stopped him.
"Are you sure your ok?"
"Let go of me, mortal. You don't care about me, so don't try to get friendly. Now goodnight."
I didn't budge. He turned to me and growled.
"I said let go."
After a moment of hesitation I let him pass. He walked by muttering under his breathe.
"I swear if one more thing goes wrong I'm going to kill somebody..."
I watched him go, confused. He seemed to be in a bad mood today. It probably had something to do with what Blaise did yesterday.
Then I remembered. Her spear tip was poisoned.
I face palmed. This was going to be a long day. Fighting off poison always made someone tired, and with being tired comes cranky. I just hoped it didn't last long.
And why was he drinking something that strong anyways? You wouldn't do that unless you were trying very hard to forget something. Either that or you wanted to kill off a few brain cells.
Then Blaise came out and I decided to put it off for now. Why should I care anyways? He made it clear he doesn't like us.
"Hey Blaise."
"Hey. Can you make breakfast?"
"Sure but why don't you want to?"
"I...I can't cook very well." She looked embarrassed.
"I'm sure its not that bad."
"Have you ever tasted my cooking?"
"Well no but-"
"Then you don't know."
"Well why don't you make breakfast THEN I'll decide if its bad or not."
"Your going to regret that.. But fine. If it'll make you happy."
She walked away, getting ready to cook. She brought out a pan and eggs, almost dropping the egg carton on the floor, and then put the temperature to high.
She cracked some eggs and put them in the pan. Some eggshells got in there. She grumbled and started unsuccessfully getting them out with a spoon. I sighed and took the spoon handle in my tail, then gently took out the shell.
"You have to put it against the lip of the pan."
"Well duh. Now shush and let me cook."
I watched her continue cooking in silence. Her temperature was too high however, and I noticed she was going to burn the outsides of the eggs, while leaving the insides raw. When her back was turned I turned down the temperature, then acted casual.
She burrowed through the spice racks, looking for something to add to it. Her hand bumped against a few spices, and they fell. I quickly jumped in, catching all 5 of them before they hit the ground. One on my tail, three in my hands, and one on the top of my head. Once she realised what happened she clapped.
"Great catch."
"Thanks." I said as I put all the spices back, save for the ones she needs.
She then started seasoning the eggs. I noticed she stuck her tongue out slightly as she concentrated. I smiled at her, getting distracted, then I noticed she was about to apply a bunch of salt to the eggs. I took her hand in mine and helped her salt the eggs. I also helped her with the pepper, for she kept saying.
"I don't think there's enough."
No matter how many times I assured her it was perfect the way it is.
Finally the eggs were done. We sat down. As soon as she took a bite her eyes lit up.
"You were right!"
I smiled and ate my eggs, choosing to accept it in silence.
