Chapter 15- Relief
"Scratch? Scratch I have something to tell- Dammit!"I opened the door, and saw he wasn't there. His window was open, but I highly doubted he jumped through it. He must have teleported away.
I growled and turned away, allowing my wings to brush against the ground as I left. I closed my eyes and concentrated, searching for his mind. After a moment I found it.
I felt him in a abandoned park, along with three other minds who had a darker aura about them. They were too far away for me to go into their minds, but at the very least I could track them.
I ran to the balcony and flew off, heading in their direction. I flew fast and low over the ground. Halfway there I felt something shift. Their moods changed, becoming more alert and hostile. I flew faster, the beats of my wings increasing in speed. My spear appeared in my hand in a shimmer of white light.
When I got there I saw Scratch backing away from Scar and Alex, with a arrow sticking out of his stomach and a cut along his arm. I couldn't see the third demon.
I landed in front of him and pointed the tip of my spear at Alex's throat.
"Back. Off. Before I kill you."
Scratch looked relieved, and I heard a faint sigh escape him.
"I guess your back, huh?" Alex said
"I guess I am."
"Well, I'll say this again. He's a traitor, and its our job to... dispose... Of such vermin. Especially ones like him." The way he said it sounded more insinutative then it should have been. He must have known about Scratch's secret.
"And I'll say THIS again. Back off before I shove a spear up your-"
Scar jumped forward, knocking the spear away from Alex and then followed up with a slash at my ribs. I took a step back, only getting a thin cut, then proceeded to stab at her. Meanwhile Alex got his weapons at the ready.
I sparred with Scar for a moment, her swift and ferocious attacks driving me back. I hated this kind of fighting. Its always easiest just to vault over your enemies and kill them from above rather then trade fancy blows. Suddenly I felt something strong latch around my ankle with a iron grip. I looked down in time to see Alex's whip, right before he pulled my feet out from underneath me. I slipped backwards, my head hitting the ground. Stars danced before my eyes.
Scar prepared to stab downwards, but before she could Scratch jumped over me, swinging his long dagger with a shout. Scar and Alex backed away to avoid getting chopped to pieces. Scratch stood in front of me, feet planted steadily in the ground, and stared at Scar and Alex as if issuing a challenge.
"Your not going to hurt her."
His tail moved from side to side, like a cat waiting to pounce at any moment. I grumbled and sat up, rubbing my head.
"That's very brave of you, traitor. But you can't do anything to make it otherwise." Scars voice dripped with sarcasm.
Then she raised her arm in the air, a serious look on her face, and said.
"Do it, Jarnhu."
And metal arrows burst through the trees.
