Chapter 12- Darkness Within

I stormed away, walking quickly. I knew something was off. I knew it.
Ash ran after me.
"Solus wait!"
I sighed but kept walking. She grabbed my wrist and tried stopping me. But I ignored her. She then tugged on my arm, keeping me in place. I looked at her.
"What."
"Explain to me what's going on."
"You won't like it."
"That's why I need to know. Its obviously important."
I was quiet, unsure of what to say. She laid a hand on my cheek and looked me in the eyes.
"Please."
I took her hand in mine and sighed, defeated. She always knew how to get to me.
"Its about Scratch."
"I figured as much..." She mumbled
"He... He is a special kind of hybrid. His kind is ostracized from both the angels and the demons. Humans fear his species. Woodfolk run in terror before them. His kind... Its hard to explain. His kind is pure evil."
I winced as Ash yelled.
"How can you say that?! Scratch isn't evil! He's nice!"
"Yeah I know but-"
"Then why would you say he's evil, huh? Why would you say-"
"Can I please finish..?"
She hesitated, and I continued.
"I know Scratch is a nice guy. I can see that. But his magic is evil, its the opposite of good. Its pure black magic."
"I thought darkness was the opposite of good?"
"Yes but no. Darkness is the opposite of light, our secondary magic. But our magic is typically non-destructive and usually profits people. His magic is the opposite. Its very destructive, and can hurt people."
"But he never hurt anyone before."
"Its because he can't. His magic is being held back by ancient enchantments. My guess is that when he was young someone placed those enchantments on him. But those enchantments are slowly wearing down. Every time he uses his magic, it wears down the enchantment little by little. Once it is broken, his magic will consume him and turn him evil. If not evil then greedy, destructive, and/or power hungry."
She looked down.
"How do you know he's.. That?"
"Because I felt his magic."
"I want more proof. I believe you but... at the same time its hard to believe."
"He should have two scars on his back, by his shoulder blades. They should be pretty noticeable, although he may have covered it up."
"I.. Ok. I'll try and see if your correct. But this might be hard."
I kissed her on the forehead and pulled her in a hug.
"Believe me, its hard finding out."
