Come With Me
I wake up, sunlight streaming in through my thin, ivory curtains. I look next to me, sighing, smiling. He’s still there. I push myself off the bed, holding myself up on my elbows. He’s still asleep, cuddled under the blankets like a lost puppy who just found his way back home. In a way, that isn’t a simile. I sit up on the side of the bed, flattening out my light green pyjama shirt and patting down my bed hair.I grab a deep blue dress, some undergarments and my hair brush, walking out of my room leaving the sleeping puppy wrapped up in his blankets. Queenie comes out of her room too, coming up to me.
“Did you two have fun last night?” she asks, raising an eyebrow.
“Not the fun you’re thinking, pervert,” I tease, walking past her and into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me.
I step out of the water, dry the water droplets off my body and get into my clothes. Looking into the mirror I smile. He’s back, he’s really back. I’ve been waiting so long for his return. And now he’s here. I sift my hair brush through my wet hair, scrunching up my face as it slaps me across the cheek.
“Bugger,”
Eventually it’s neat enough, I throw a little bit of makeup on my face to look a little bit presentable and walk out of the bathroom. I pass Queenie again.
“He’s waking up, I have to go out now, you’re on your own for breakfast,” she tells me. I notice the skimpy dress under her bright red coat.
“Who?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.
“No one,” she quickly pushes past me. “I’ll be back… soon!”
I open my door, seeing Newt slowly dragging himself into his clothes.
“Tired?” I question, smiling.
“Yes,” his lips curve upwards slightly. “Very,” there’s something else there though, in his eyes. If you just met him you’d think him a lonely man, but I know.
“You miss them, don’t you?”
“Yes,” he walks up to me, buttoning up his waistcoat. “Come back with me,” he grabs my hands in his, looking at me, all of me. “I miss them when I’m with you and I miss you when I’m with them,”
“We just bought this house, Newt, I fear that…”
“Tina, please,” he holds my hands tighter. “Come with me, to London,”
“Tell me honestly, what would happen if I said no?” I don’t want to say no, never. I just want to know what’s going to happen to us if I can’t go. I notice as the words slip out of my mouth, his childlike sense of wonderment, disappears. He brings his lips up to my ear, caressing it slightly with the soft skin.
“You’d take away something ever so precious to me. I don’t make friends easily, I annoy them. You, my creatures, are all I have, and I don’t want to have to choose between the two,” he gives my hands a final squeeze, pulling his face back into view. Oh how I wish he hadn’t. His eyes are begging me, begging me to come with him and live with him forever. “I like your dress,” He turns, and walks out of my bedroom.
