I Like You
“Tina! Tina let me in!” I feel pressure from the door behind me, causing me to fall forward. Before he has a chance to come in I race up and sit down on my bed, smoothing my clothes out to make it look like I wasn’t just sobbing against the door because of my insecurities. I glance over at my wand, I could just freeze him. Totally could. He walks in and my jaw drops. His waistcoat got dropped along the way somewhere and his first two buttons are undone. “What’s wrong?”“Nothing, don’t you worry about a thing,” I wipe the tears off my cheeks. He comes and sits next to me, grabbing my hand.
“Then… where were we?” his eyes invite me to continue. I know my heart will be hurt later but should I not take advantage of this? To make the pain worth it. He leans around me, kissing me once more.
Soon he’s pushed me so I’m lying down and he’s on top of me. I can feel his heartbeat through his shirt and the heat on his face through my hands. Somehow I didn’t notice his shirt get unbuttoned. His stomach is toned, yet he’s still a little lanky. I love that about him, he’s not amazing, but to the right pair of eyes he’s perfect. He stares into that pair of eyes intently. Slowly I notice the lust disappear from his eyes.
“Tina, you’re… you’re…wonderful! Beautiful! An enigma,” his childish, soothing voice returns. It makes me wonder if the bite has worn off but as I notice him still staring at me like I mean the world to him, I realise that’s not true. We continue for a while.
Newt lies beside me in the bed, playing with my now shoulder length hair, still looking at me with such loving eyes.
“Shouldn’t it have worn off already?” I ask, sighing.
“Oh it did, a long while ago,”
“You mean to tell me…?” he’s lying, isn’t he? He has to be! But thinking back, a while ago he did lose that look in his eyes, and he started treating me more gently, yet still rough.
“I… apologise, I was just a little worried that you’d stop once it wore off,” he whispers, he gives me a sheepish smile.
“Newt,” I begin, turning on my side, just as he is. So we’re facing.
“Yes?” his eyes sparkle, a childlike sparkle, similar to the one he has when he’s in his little suitcase, in his own little fantasy world.
“Did you not hear me say ‘I like you’?” I smile, laughing a little as he begins laughing too. He jumps over me and hugs me tight, still laughing.
“Please tell you don’t mean as a friend,”
“Newt, we’re together, on a bed, you’re shirtless and I haven’t run away, what do you think?” his skin is warm as I press my cheek against his chest. “I like you, Newt, as more than a friend,” his heartrate flies off the charts, pounding against my ear. I look up, taking in the innocence of his freckles and the sharpness of his eyes.
“I like you too, a lot,” he mutters, his pale skin receiving a flush of colour. “I mean, I-I… um, do you want to… be… my… um,”
“I’d love to,” I smile, laughing once more at the sheer awkwardness. He chuckles, with a sigh of relief. I hug him tight. “Don’t leave me again, Mr Scamander,”
