Candy Hearts
Hilda’s quiet footsteps resounded through the air, only barely being audible. The dark-haired student always took the quieter route from her classes that had just finished for the day, preferring it to the busy street most took. Besides, this way was faster to her little cousin’s house; she wanted to check on her to see if she was feeling well enough.“Hey Hilda, catch!”
Hilda turned to see who had called out to her, a plastic bag being flown into her face. Catching it more out of instinct than anything, she was surprised to find it was a bag filled with candied hearts, something especially rare to find this time of year. But who had thrown them at her?
“...I should have figured it was you, Duke.” she said as she glanced up to the green-eyed male walking up to her, “Where the heck did you even get these? They’re nearly impossible to find this time of year.”
“Let’s just say I know a few people.” he says as he walks up beside the knight duelist, “Yugi said you like candy, so I figured this might cheer you up, what with you always seeming so serious.” That comment made an unamused look cross Hilda’s face, though Duke merely laughed.
“Yeah yeah, whatever.” she said as she opened the plastic bag, reaching in and handing a few to the game maker, “Here, you may as well have some too.” Duke gladly took the little pile of candied hearts given to him, lifting one up to read the little message they often had printed on them.
“’Be mine’, huh?” the other teased as a smirk returning to his face while Hilda’s expression changed to one of surprise, “Didn’t think I’d hear that from you, Hilda~.”
“Shut up, I didn’t even look at the ones I gave to you!” she defended. Though, out of curiosity, Hilda reached in the bag again and pulled out more of the candy. That same ‘Be mine’ phrase was printed on all of them, as if someone had requested it to be so. There was a way to get custom messages on them, right?
“I oughta hit you upside the head for making them all say the same thing,” the shock had been replaced with a look of annoyance as she glanced back to the taller student, “...But, at another time.”
“What can I say? It was worth a shot.” he said, continuing walking ahead as he crossed his arms, “So, is that a yes I hear?”
“Only in your dreams, you dummy.” Hilda retorted as she soon followed, “...But consider it a maybe.”
