Chapter 2
The first lesson of the day was English. I walked to my classroom, and when I arrived there, I joined the end of the line outside of it. The teacher hadn't come out of the room to tell us to go inside, so we had to wait. When the teacher finally appeared and allowed us to go into the classroom, I found my seat at the table near the teacher's desk, and I took my pencil case out of my school bag. Then I placed my bag on the floor next to me, and waited to be given my book. A few minutes later, a girl from the table behind me was told to hand the books out, and when I had mine, I wrote down the date and title on my next clean page. Then the lesson began.
"Okay, everyone. For the next few weeks, we are going to be doing something a bit different." the teacher announced.
I wondered what she meant by that. Doing something different would probably be more interesting, because we had been focusing on the same topic for about a month now, and we hadn't been learning anything at all. But the new topic could be something that involved things that scared me, and I hadn't had to do anything like that for a while. I began to feel worried, and I waited for the teacher to tell everyone what we were going to do.
"We're going to be doing a project. It's going to be on the topic of holidays, and you're going to be working in pairs to produce a brochure for your own holiday destination." the teacher told everyone.
I began to feel scared. I hated working in pairs or groups, because nobody ever wanted to work with me, and I always ended up having to sit on my own for every lesson, trying to do a large amount of work made for more than one person all by myself. Even when I was put in a group or a pair, I was usually left out. It was horrible, and I wished I could just work on my own all of the time.
"I've already put you into pairs. I'll put them on the board now, and you can see who you're going to be working with." the teacher said, then she clicked on a file on her computer.
I watched as the file opened on the screen, and I waited to see who I was going to have to be with for the project. As soon as I read the name typed beside mine, I knew that I wasn't going to be working with any of the kids that were almost okay with me. Because it was the name of someone that probably wouldn't be nice to me at all.
