The Adventures of Ace, Zeal and Candy

Aces morning routine

As the sun began to ascend and light the land of the Ulonia region ace was fast asleep since recent events caused him to rethink how he would behave and act from here on out "ugh...." the bird rose from his bed and stretched groggily "worst nights sleep ive ever had..... almost as bad as when i had to sleep in that cage...." he yawned and looked over at the drawer near him containing his clothes "wonder if zeal and candy have woken up yet or if those two are just cuddling in bed?" he slowly but surely made his way from his bed to the door and peeped out and listened for the two, there was no mouth watering aroma coming from the kitchen and he heard Zeal's light snoring from the next room over "least he doesnt sleep like that one experiment i meant, guy slept as if he had an elephants trunk for a nose" he thought to himself and chuckled a bit, he paused in deep thought and wondered if that experiment ever escaped the facility or met a tragic end like a majority of them had.
Ace shuddered at the thought of the second possibility and shaked off the thought as quickly as it had arisen. The bird opened the door all the way holding a pair of clothes for himself as he calmly walked over to the bathroom closing the door behind him and locking it from his side so Zeal or candy wouldn't walk in on him, but ace was sure that they had their own bathroom by their room next to where the closet is. Ace stripped down to nothing and turned the valve in the shower as the water sprayed out "brr-rrr.... too chilly..." he ruffled up a bit and turned the valve for hot water evening out the cold and hot water to just the right temperature as he stepped in "ahhh..... just the right temperature" he grabbed a bar of soap and lathered up his body making sure his feathers were thoroughly scrubbed so he wouldn't develop body odor. When Zeal returned from carbon later than what he normally would Ace could always pick up on the musk that he was giving off from his hard work and labor, candy often remarking about how Zeal better hop in the shower before even thinking about sleeping in the same bed with her.
As the bird bathed and cleaned himself he began to wonder if the two had ever really gotten in a disagreement or any kind of scuffle that would cause them to stay in separate rooms "im sure those two have had their fair share of arguments before, but it seems as if they would rarely argue since they both seem so happy together" he wasnt paying attention as some soap splashed in his eyes, he was about to scream but stopped himself and remarked sharply "D-dammit! My eyes!" he forced himself to keep them open and let some water flush the soap out "always hate it when that happens...." he rubbed his eyes a bit after the soap was flushed out and finished rinsing off as he turned the valves shutting off the flow of water stepping out of the shower, he was immediately hit with a burst of cold air from the bathroom window that was cracked open "F-freezing!" he reached over and closed it immediately shivering a bit as he reached for a towel from the bar nearby
"Of all the species i couldve been born as i REALLY wish i was a furred one.....! Not a feathery piece of prehistoric poultry that can barely stand a small draft!" he dried off and looked at himself in the mirror, he put a finger to his beak and pulled it a bit down to see his teeth "man i really need some toothpaste and mouth wash or my breath will smell as bad as how my teeth look" he noticed the mirror was one of those cabinet mirrors, he pulled it open and saw some hygiene products inside which included a small toothbrush pack that had three new toothbrushes inside, the fourth presumably belonging to zeal since the toothbrushes looked as if they were for sharp teeth like zeal's and not semi dull like candy's carrot nibbling chompers "oh, whats this?" he noticed a sticky note on the pack and read it "hey ace feel free to use some of these, I already used one so don't use the blue brush sitting by the toothpaste alright?"
"Man that wolf is always planning ahead of time and leaving these all over the place for me, he reminds me of a neyatene, always thinking always planning...... slap some scales and retractable claws on em and you have a friendly neyatene" he chuckled a bit and grabbed the toothbrush and spread the blue paste onto the bristles and began to brush his teeth

after ace finished cleaning up and had a pearly white smile again he dressed himself and put his clothes in the bin besides him and proceeded to go into the cellar they had to grab a snack to tide him over until the two waked up, his stomach growled "ahh..... those soft sweet fruits, i need to have some of them" he walked over to the barrel and saw a note on the lid this time it was by candy since she had a bit cleaner hand writing then Zeal did "I saw a few of the pitts on the floor from the peaches you ate the other day, feel free to help yourself to them sweetheart, just be sure to only have one or two and not stuff your face full of em ey?" "ey? guess thats fitting for the accent she has." he reached in and grabbed one of the small juicy fruits "so these are called peaches? nice name for it, i gotta remind myself to ask more about some of the fruits the world has now and where they come from or i might end up eating something poisonous by mistake and that would suck" he took a bit out of the sweet fruit and savored each bite he had discarding the pit in the garbage properly.
he walked into the kitchen and sat down to think "those notes mustve been written way before yesterday.... or they mightve been worded a bit differently....." he remembered how he had upset the two with the stunt he pulled yesterday "dammit ace.... gotta remember to ask when i can go outside.... not just run off like some idiot without thinking....." he remembered watching Zeal fight Forte, he had the urge to jump in and help beat the soldier down but he felt as if his combat skills were rusty and wouldve been off in that fight and couldve possibly screwed up if one wrong move was made on his part or Zeal's, but he decided it would've been best to hold candy back since he wouldn't have forgiven himself if the bunny were to have gotten injured or worse, killed. Zeal would've hated him and kicked him out and he would have to go back to surviving on his own but he was glad they still let him stay despite the fact that they both might give him the cold shoulder when they wake.
he couldn't exactly tell what happened with Zeal when he began choking the soldier but he did recall seeing his feet glow the same color as the chokio did and could only assume that a force of good intervened directly with the wolf. He got up from his seat and went to the fridge and opened it up to get a drink, there were a few cans of Zeals favorite fizz. It was some jellyfish flavored kind that he really seemed to enjoy and he was tempted to drink one but thought he should wait as to not spoil his breakfast with something slightly unhealthy
He looked through the fridge and grabbed a gallon of milk and served himself a glass before putting it back inside and closing the door and walked over to a window by the front door "hmmmm...." he looked over at the thermometer just outside the window as it read in both fharenheit and celsius, ace paid more attention to degrees F as it read 20 "sheesh..... gonna be a cold one today" he sat down wondering when the couple would awaken and cook breakfast, ace then remembered he probably through off their sleep cycle a bit and not only messed up candys a bit but zeals even more from the battle he had, he sat there and looked at the small electric clock nearby "8:45 still kinda early candy would've been awake by now with zeal but i'll give them another hour or so" he then turned his eyes over to a few pictures by the lamp in the living room, one showed a small wolf with short cut hair wearing a simple outfit, some blue shorts and a black shortsleeve, another showed a young pink haired bunny her expression a bit more happy than zeals since kid zeal seemed to just have the plain look of unamusement.
He looked at a few more pictures around the home that showed only a couple of the two as children but just them "where the heck are the family portraits? im only seeing pictures of just them alone...." this got a few gears in aces brain moving as he wondered "only two pictures of them both as children.....?" "where are their parents? or any family for that matter" ace thought for a bit and came to a conclusion the two had similar pasts they'd rather forget about since zeal was only sixteen and must have left his family behind a few years ago bringing only a picture of himself as a child as a keepshake for himself and candy..... he couldn't figure out her since she was older than zeal by a few years

Zeal was in the kitchen cooking but was rather silent and had a look of, well ace couldn't peg out the look but only that it was the same as it was on his childhood photo, candy was a bit stone faced as they both did their thing getting things made and cooking, Zeal finished and set their plates out as candy sat opposite of him taking a sip from her glass of water. The silence was extremely awkward for ace as it made him feel like an intruder now rather then a friend to the two, he twiddled his fingers as Zeal gave him his plate and sat down to eat. Ace grabbed his fork and took a bite out of it. The breakfast was mainly some shrimp and salmon along with some vegetables and chili cooked into the mix. As ace ate he noticed zeals cooking tasted slightly bitter and thought "guess its true... your mood affects how you cook...." he couldnt take the silence anymore and broke it with a big deep breath of air
"I am so sorry for what i did yesterday okay.....?" he looked down at the ground then back at the two who were still a bit stiff, zeal shifted a bit and spoke "Just.... try not to do that again please...." Candy's was a bit more harsh "Do that again and I might bonk ya over the head with a lollipop....." Zeal shifted uncomfortably obviously worried with candys mood "sweetie please..... could you tone it down a bit.... he didn't mean too...." "He coudlve gotten us in serious trouble zeal...." candy was still stiff but easing up "but.... i guess ill forgive him" Zeal still looked a bit uncomfortable with her since he didn't seem to take negativity from his mate so well "so...." he spoke "whats on the agenda for today?" "well zeal's going to a healers to get himself checked out" candy uttered. Zeal shank into his chair a bit "y-yeah... its for the best...." Ace noticed his right eye was a bit swollen and that he had several scratches around his arms and face from the fight "Look i didn't mean to put you through that...." "i know ace" Zeal spoke "its not your fault" candy was silent "it was though..... i feel like an idiot for doing that..... i was just so sick and tired of being pent up in here...."
Zeal spoke "well maybe we can come up with a plan that can let you see outside but at the same time not alert any of the guards nearby" "sounds good" ace spoke, candy finished her breakfast and walked back to their bedroom "listen we'll work on a plan for it alright, for the time being youve gotta stay pent up here for a bit longer, i promise ill come up with something" zeal followed candy and mouthed to ace "I will be back after i talk to my very upset mate" Ace flinched a bit understanding that zeal might be sleeping alone tonight "poor guy..... his hearts as big as his head, in the right place but making poor decisions at times...." ace finished his breakfast and sat on the couch "i just hope those two never split up" ace thought and curled up in a blanket waiting for the two to emerge from the room
Zeal came out with her, candy looked a bit more at ease but still with some tension in her face "alright ill be back from the healers in a bit, you two keep eachother company" Candy got on her tippy toes and kissed his cheek "take it easy out there alright?" "you worry too much" he said as he walked out the door "he actually worrys too much...." she spoke "big guy always thinks of others before himself" Ace gave it some thought "thats bad right?" "yeah..... he just needs some encouragement sometimes and he'll be okay, but im still mildly upset with you mister" "u-understood candy" he looked at her "just stay calm, ill get over it soon and we will work out a plan" she went to her room, ace's mind was a bit at ease hearing her mention that she'll forgive him but even more that they'll be working on a plan
